If you are willing to fully invest in his strategies he will take you to the top. It takes a large dedicated following to justify that spending though.

Whatever you don't give him others might, and he'd likely end up there. Alabama has as large, dedicated, and resourceful of a following as you will find. Perfect marriage

Luckily LSU was willing to give him a blank check in 2000. We are still benefiting from the facility upgrades, cox academic center, and salary precedents he established.
^ Jimbo is currently fighting for these things at FSU, and he used LSU job as leverage to get what it takes to be dominant.

It would be hard to get a lot of 4 & 5* athletes to Miss St. But he would get more than they usually do. My guess is Miss St would win 1 maybe 2 SEC Champs in 5 years but lose to an Urban or a Dabo pretty easy. It would be super hard to talk their admin to spend enough money on facilities to keep up and then Bama would hire him away after his first SEC Champ. So...

Here are three reasons why UAT is so successful at football: 1) UAT has an unlimited football budget and spends more money than any other SEC member on gold plated over the top gaudy football facilities 2) no university admissions office "interference" (also Bama is one of only three SEC schools, along with Ole Miss and MS State that accepts Ds on high school and/or college transcripts and 3) most importantly Saban has no oversight from the UAT administration, a UAT head football coach answers to no one. In essence UAT is a football team masquerading as a university. Also over the years UAT's football success degenerated to became a substitute for its fans own lack of self esteem highlighted by a neuroses of persecution. Football is the be all and end all at UAT.

Are we talking if he went there now or like within the last 2-3 years? Yea he would bring them to national prominence. If we're talking he went there instead of Bama, I still think he would bring them to a contender, but nowhere near this level of success. The resources he has right now only amplified his ability. It would not have been the same at somewhere like a NC State or something.

Interesting thread. I think if Saban would have gone to MS State, Vandy or Missouri, I do not think that he would have created the dynasty that he has in Tuscaloosa. The would have been good because of his process and the way he handles the program as a business, but that doesn't make up for the intangibles needed to win championships.

It all has to do with History, Tradition, Fanbase, Facilities, Campus and of course the all-mighty dollar.

I do however think he would have created a dynasty had he gone to the likes of Florida, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss ect. They all have the intangibles, and are always a step or two away from greatness (theoretically).

On the limited evidence available (1 year at Arky State), he would win the conference championship every year.

Saban took over a Michigan State team that went 0-11 in 1994.

1995 - 6-5-1
1996 - 6-6
1997 - 7-5
1998 - 6-6
1999 - 10-2

So, even the greatest coach in college football history is human. Obviously, he has honed his craft since his days at Michigan State. Nobody will compete with Saban regularly, unless they adopt and take to heart his dedication, focus, and tunnel vision toward his goals.

With his reputation of winning, he'd be able to recruit well anywhere now. That is an earned characteristic.

Having said that, the secret sauce to Saban's success is work ethic and attention to detail. This translates into him being the best recruiter in modern football history, which produces winning...which completes a cycle in helping recruit better and better.

He is not that dynamic without overwhelming talent (See Michigan State, Miami, first Years at LSU and Bama).

So, you can't separate the man from his reputation. In a vacuum, he would succeed anywhere, but likely not to this extent. However, with his reputation preceding him, I think he would win a national title within three years at State, OM or South Carolina if he started there this offseason.

He would probably do like he did his first year at Bama. He would go 7-6, win a small bowl, and then when he got his recruits in, he'd be near the top every year.

As long as we have the NCAA president who he is, Saban would win 10 plastic trophies no matter where he coached. Can't blackmail anyone in the NFL.

Not under Saban it wouldn't. Mullen himself gets plenty of 4* players, but only a handful of 5* in his tenure. It would take Saban at least 5 years to win an SEC champ at MSU, because it would take that long to build the necessary depth. We have facilities already.

But Saban is somewhat of a pussy, and would never except a challenge where he didn't have every advantage over other programs, e.g. LSU and Bama.

Just think had he gone to Auburin in 07 where they would be today. Playing for their 5 th championship and all.
They would be on top of college football, instead they are window lickers who are jelly of their big brother. They have the GussBuss and they have the Sadz.

It is all about talent. He has the ability to get great players. Look at his first year at Ala. He did not have the talent and he stunk. At Miami he could not stock pile talent and he stunk. At Michigan State his teams were bad until he was able to get TALENT. Look at the old ball coach,he was great at FL. when he could hand pick his talent but only average when he could not. There are a number of coaches who would win with Al's talent.
