With the playoff now, does it mean anything to play in, say, The Rose Bowl?

Or the Orange?

Maybe it's just me, but all those bowls seem like worthless preseason games. Alot of noise. Signifying nothing.

ETA: Sugar Bowl removed to prevent further martydom of Ole Miss fans

Haven't they always "meant nothing"?

It's basically a reward to see good matchups

Your school is currently the laughing stock of college football.

Only if you've never been there or haven't been there in a long time.

I think it does. Watch the players celebrate NY6 wins last year

Depends, it wasn't long ago a certain fanbase claimed the Cotton was more prestigious than the Sugar Bowl under the BCS system.

Didn't bama lose a game and blamed it on the fact that it was a consolation game that meant nothing?

Alabama beat themselves in the 2009 and 2014 Sugar Bowls because the games meant nothing and were merely a consolation prize, correct.

Most bowl games were always meaningless in terms of championships. The Sugar Bowl is a hell of a lot better than the Birmingham bowl

Other than the National Championship they really all mean the same.

Except money and not having to tell people you played in the Duck Commander Under Armour Memorial Toyota Bowl.

They just mean as much as BCS bowls that weren't the National
championship.

But go ahead and tell yourself they don't mean anything so you can sleep better tonight since you know the little baby Old Piss is going to be playing in the Sugar.

No. They used to mean something. They used to decide national championships up until the late-90s.

If anything, they mean more to the player and fans.

Would you rather play in the Superdome and travel to New Orleans or play at Legion Field and travel to Birmingham?

Easy choice.

Yeah, I agree and it is how the playoff (or even BCS #1 v #2 NC game) has changed the top bowls a bit.

They still mean something but are certainly like a 3rd place consolation game to teams that feel they should have done more to make the playoff and kind of "check out" when they lose out on that goal.

Yeah they just pay out 18M dollars

Could have paid off Les Miles buyout with that but no biggie since y'all are keeping him
