After spending his offseason planning to grayshirt this fall before enrolling in January, Alabama football signee Bradley Bozeman received some surprising news on Tuesday.

"They called me and told me to head down and join the team," Bozeman said.

The 6-foot-5, 306-pound offensive lineman from Handley High in Roanoke signed in February with the intent to delay his enrollment until January of 2014 after suffering an ACL tear during his senior season last fall. Bozeman said the Crimson Tide coaching staff had told him this summer that there was still a possibility he could enroll in time for the 2013 season but he wasn't given the green light until Tuesday morning.

"I'm pretty excited. I'm packing my stuff up now and I'll head to Tuscaloosa tomorrow. I have been busting it all summer trying to get back in shape and I don't believe I will be limited at all once I get to fall camp. I am excited to get back out there and play football again."

Bozeman said that despite originally believing he would not be a member of the 2013 Crimson Tide, he remained in touch with the coaches and several members of the 2013 signing class.

"I have spoken with Coach (Mario) Cristobal several times this summer as well as with Coach Saban and they just kept telling me to be ready to play and I took them seriously. I also have stayed in touch with Reuben Foster, who is a good friend of mine and grew up with me."

Bozeman said the last year, which included receiving a scholarship offer from Alabama, committing to the Crimson Tide, ending his senior season with an injury, and being asked to grayshirt, has been an emotional roller coaster but has provided him with some invaluable life experience.

"It has been a really up and down year for me but honestly I'm glad it all happened. I've honestly never faced much adversity in my life. I've always been the biggest and strongest guy on the field and I have great people around me. Going through all of this has taught me something I never could have learned any other way. It has taught me to deal with adversity and to work hard when life hands you obstacles. I think I will be a better player, a better teammate and a better person because of what I've gone through."

Bozeman signed with Alabama as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 27 offensive guard according to the 247Composite rankings. He chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Auburn, Clemson and Ole Miss.

Kid was an underdog and he knew it. Barely a take but you can't break your inroads. He wanted to prove he could compete. Defeated because the kid knows the guys in front of him are monsters. Makes a smart move and knows he could use another year (sitting out) to get bigger so he can develop into a monster too. No story here.

Why are Bama fans so insecure?
I'm noticing a trend that any non-Bama fan makes any comment about Bama that isn't completely glowing and declaring something about them the GOAT, even completely neutral normal discussion comments, it gets downvoted.

What gives Bama fans?

It's not being insecure. If there's no story here, well it's just no story, no matter who tries to make it one.

Chapman and Vlachos greyshirted.

John Parker Wilson, Chapman, and Vlachos were all recruited by Shula. Chapman and Vlachos came in the 2007 class when Saban had just arrived. Shula had to take anyone he could get. I'm talking about Saban era grayshirts. Sometimes greyshirts outwork everyone and overcome the odds. Good for them. But I would never let my son accept a greyshirt, especially from Alabama. It's stupid. In fact check out this quote about Vlachos to prove my point:

quote:

Nick Saban was furious. As he paced the Vlachos’ living room, Saban mulled over his situation. He had been hired to coach a disgraced Alabama team back to glory, and he had a specific “process” in mind. And William Vlachos, Saban determined, had no part in it. Saban spoke of grayshirting the 6-foot, one-inch, 294-pound center, whom Mike Shula had recruited but Saban thought was too small. “To be honest, Saban didn’t want him,” Mountain Brook High School football coach Chris Yeager said. “He wanted to figure out a way to get rid of him. When Saban came to visit William at his house, I felt like he really tried to get him to decommit because of his size.”

We often switch glasses here. In our jobs we all have work to do. If you work in management you know that you, your staff, and crew have to get the job done. These were not his recruits and although he may have not wanted them, he still honored those commitments. I know I would rather have the guy that tells it to me straight. Not the guys who just stop calling and won't take my calls like other coaches have done. Regardless of what the NCAA says, this a a business, and a grayshirt only matters to the schools that didn't get the 5 star guy, which means someone has to go or wait.

He may not have wanted them but both Chapman and Vlachos had a nice career at Bama and won rings too. I realize that most greyshirt guys don't ever earn significant playing time. Josh made it to the NFL and I believe was our strongest player.

Chapman wasn't just your strongest player, he was the strongest player in all CFB. That's why he's now yalls assistant S&C coach

And Saban did want him, because Chapman was commited to Auburn before Saban was hired.

I was ecstatic I'd finally know an Auburn player personally. Chapman was a lifelong Bama fan so it was only a matter of time when Saban was hired, but when it was still Shula vs Tuberville he was smart enough to know what would've been better for him.

Wished Kerry Murphy would have worked out too. Always seemed immensely talented. Just a lot of stuff happened to him. Personal issues and couldn't stay healthy.

Evans basically was the spy on Watson in second half. Evans dos about as well as anybody could have in they role.

He's a solid player. He will be on the field a bunch versus ole miss, AU and other spread concept teams.

Oh he was. I saw that dude do full backflip. At his size it was amazing. He was dumb as rocks though. He was a senior and had core classes with me and I was a sophomore. And then the tragedy with his brother derailed all the progress he was making
