He is really young for the spot and I would worry about his lack of recruiting ties to the area.

Wade has done well but its on the Eastern seaboard so far.

That having been said he seems like a coach that does the best with what he has. If LSU lands him and he works out he could be a dynasty building coach if he can recruit the area.

VCU coaches have been awfully successful after leaving for greener pastures

Seems like a solid coach. But, like most mid-major hires, it's a crapshoot whether that translates to a big league.

Correlation is not causation.

Unless you think VCU implants brain microbes that produce negative results when they leave.

Smart had a horrible year at Texas this year I will grant you. That is part of why I have some worries about Wade. Bringing in someone from outside the area means they have to spend a few years building up relations within the recruiting area.

In the South you just don't stroll in, put your thang down, and expect recruits to flock to you. You have to put in work and develop ties.

SEC isn't really big league in basketball. every year the top 2-3 can compete while the rest suck. those 2-3 are usually kentucky/florida and then the merry go round team.

He did a phenomenal turnaround at UTC before going to VCU.

But have no clue where he recruited while there

Wade is a Southern guy. He's from Nashville, went to Clemson, was a GA at Clemson then coached at VCU, UTC and back to VCU. However, most of his ties are definitely the Eastern part of the Region.

Either way, stuff these days in college basketball is so national with camps, teams, shoe leagues......I don't think it matters nearly as much.

Wade is highly thought of by a lot of folks so I'm guessing he'll do a good job. However, while Chattanooga was coming off 2 bad seasons, they are a historically good basketball program that had been pretty solid just before the 2 year downturn. And, of course, VCU has been solid for more than a decade now (and historically).

Seems like a solid, cheaper end hire, which is basically what most expected. Could definitely have done much worse.

It's been 20 hours 3 minutes and 28 seconds since Arkansas last scored a basket.

Floridas last two coaching hires were cheap reach hires

Besides UK, you are going to have to have a vision to hire a potential great coach in the sec

So was Anthony Grant,Stan Heath, John Pelphrey, Johnny Jones, Trent Johnson, Donnie Tyndall among many others. We will see what White does once he had his own roster, he did finish 9th in the SEC with the same roster last year.

I remember when LSU hired Saban and everyone was questioning how this Big Ten guy was going to recruit down here.

Then no one on his staff at Mich St boarded the plane to come down here.

What did Saban do - he started hiring a staff of coaches with ties to the south.

I can assure you no LSU fan would be expecting anything within the first year considering the potential state of the roster this offseason.
