Will the AP be the only poll next year?

Throughout the season, that is. I think the coaches is discontinuing, I imagine the Harris might as well. Will that put more emphasis on the AP poll once again, until the Selection Committee does whatever it is they will do at the end of the season?

They really just gonna stop with the other polls?

I find that hard to believe.

Why wouldn't USA Today want the page views?

Why do i forsee this being the ultimate rustling moving forward?

Can you imagine a second SEC team being ranked 4th in AP and a committee deciding its better to have a different conference in that spot? The closer we get the more this sounds like a bureaucracy of powerful people deciding.

Gonna be a shitstorm and we ALL see it coming before it starts. People hated that there were two SEC teams playing in the 2011 BCSNC game - they freakin hated it. So, the powers that be created a playoff to smoothe those fans feathers and just watch what happens when we have 2 SEC teams in the top 4 and one gets left the frick out of the playoff......

I've always considered the AP to be the one that mattered until the BCS came out, so nothing really changing except the AP Poll won't matter at all because the committee doesn't have to go by rankings.

Why would that be?

It existed before the BCS.

Correct.

Maybe incorrect. People will be following the AP all season, especially if it's the only major poll during the season. It could put pressure on the Playoff Committee to do something off their rankings, or if they are off the mark with the AP, it could lead to even more controversy.

The Legends Poll is a good one.

I've always said that the AP was the most accurate, but the Legends is probably right there with it.

They would have been better off keeping the BCS ranking system and just using it to pick the top 4 teams.

Did some digging. It'll still be around, but...

What does seem pretty obvious, though, is that the Coaches’ Poll won’t be tied to the championship like in the BCS era. The Coaches have a deal with the BCS where they always vote the winner of the BCS Championship Game No. 1 in the final poll. That requirement will go away. So the AFCA National Championship Trophy (Coaches’ Trophy) will no longer be tied to the FBS Tournament Champion

So the Coaches Poll will no longer be used to directly determine the de-facto national champion after 2013. The poll will still exist after the BCS. It will be reported on, tracked for historical reasons, etc. It will still award a champion, just as it has since 1950

The big take-aways from all of this speculation is that the Coaches’ Poll will return to its place in polling history as another player in the football champion naming game, and the Harris Interactive poll as we know it will likely go away. Unfortunately for football fans, that means we’ll have potential for even more recognized split national champions: Coaches, AP and the FBS Playoff champions

Although a requirement does not exist, I can't imagine a scenario in which the winner of a 4-team playoff doesn't receive the coach's trophy. Or the nod from the AP.

basketball still has an AP and coaches top 25 poll even though a selection committee makes the decisions... don't see why not.

AP can still crown whoever they want as champs.

So we going back to the MNC thing with a playoff champ and a coaches champ and an AP champ

Suppose the AP has Teams ranked in the top 4, but the Playoff Committee takes the AP's #7 team as the 4th playoff team, due to winning a conference. Suppose then, also, that #7 win's 2 games to win the Playoff, and the AP's #4 wins their Bowl while 1,2 and 3 lose.

So does this mean the coaches trophy will be its own separate entity sort of how the AP trophy has unofficially been since '03? That should be interesting.

I would lulz so hard of somehow, something worked out to have 3 split NC's at some point, with Bama winning the Playoff one.

So #7 wins a playoff against the Top-3 teams... and Team #4 plays an inferior opponent and wins.

Still seems like #7 gets the nod.

However, I see your point. However implausible, it COULD happen.
