State will not beat Ole Miss in Starkville. Yes, I know we've had a difficult time winning in the Hump, but this is one of the worst SEC teams of the past two decades. I'm willing to impose a perma-ban on myself if State wins that game. Since I'm not a "veteran poster" like yourself, you can just hang it up until the first of August.

Why? No one cares if you post or not.

Everyone talks about stans being a bad floor coach. I think he was ok there. He was a terrible practice coach and teacher.

Where all the State fans?

Obviously they're not up in "The Hump"

Fans have been over Ray since year one. When you kick every being resembling an athlete off the team, and play it off as discipline, you're digging your own grave. Doesn't matter that he turned out to be a shitty coach on top of that. He has buried Mississippi State Basketball and people have lost all interest in it.

Agreed. I did not do a good job of completing my thought.

He was an great recruiter. A+ if there ever was one. I thought he was a B floor coach. Remember Brandon Vincent running the point in the 1-3-1? We would shut teams down.

I don't think he was good at all in preparing his team for games. There was a game against Kentucky at the Hump where we came out completely unprepared. I think we got down 20-0 or something ridiculous. But we made adjustments, and came back and won that game. Or in the NCAA Tournament game against Texas in '02 - we got down by 23 early and fought back and almost won the game because we played that tenacious 1-3-1 in the second half. ( LINK

Awful floor coaches don't do that. But Awful preparation coaches get themselves in situations where that sort of management is needed, and you can't coach your way out of everything. For every Kentucky, there was Texas, Rider, Louisiana-Lafayette, Xavier, Butler, etc.

And like skip said, people have lost interest. My recollection of these games should show you that there was once a lot of passion and interest (and booster money) for Mississippi State basketball. That is almost gone across the fanbase. I haven't watched a game all season, and I only watched the SEC Tournament games last year. And I was one of the biggest fans.

Stans accomplished way more with what he had than he will ever get credit for. People claim he was some great recruiter and the talent carried him, bullshite. None of the guys ever saw significant time in the league, they obviously weren't phenomenal players but he sure as hell made them look that way while they were here.

Besides UK and Florida, who else in the conference really puts players in the league? Stansbury had some loaded teams and underachieved time after time. He was an excellent recruiter

Besides UK and Florida, who else in the conference achieved more than Stans did in that span? I'll give you an idea, during the last decade, Kentucky has the most SEC titles of any kind (12), State is second (8), and Florida third (6).

6 NCAA Tourneys
2 SEC Tourney Championships
5 Division Championships
1 SEC Regular Season Championship
11 Post-Season appearances

Players currently in the league: 0.
Highly sought after recruits: 3. (Mario Austin, Renardo Sydney, Rodney Hood)
Averaged over 20 wins a season, won 293 games.

In no damn way is this "underachieving", we got spoiled and thought we could do better. We look to have been wrong.

Get over it. He's gone. Can't fix that. If all you say is true, then why weren't good coaches lined up to replace him at the juggernaut that is MSU basketball. He and Mia had outlived their usefulness. We made a bad hire. Got to put our big boy britches on and move and fix this thing.
