Will Mississippi State become a consistent 9-10 win program with OM's downfall?

I think they could. The State of Mississippi has always had enough talent to supply one competitive SEC program, but having to split it doomed MSU and OM. Now MSU gets all that talent to itself and has the 2nd best coach in the SEC who has no interest in leaving. Plus, the nearby state of Alabama is leaving behind a lot of SEC caliber talent because Bama mostly recruits nationally now and Auburn gets most of its players from GA and FL. It's a perfect goldmine of talent, coaching, and stability for MSU to make the Dak years more of the norm than the exception.

Yep, and those players will now mostly go to Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, etc. Alabama lost out on 5-6 elite Mississippi kids the last few years to Ole Miss.

State might sign a couple more players, but it isn't like all kids that would have gone to Ole Miss are now going to go to State.

Exactly this^

We'll average around one more win for the next decade or so. It's not that we will be getting that much better, but we'll get yearly W over a shell of an Ole Miss team along with everyone else in the SEC west.

Agree, but a lot will. Mississippi recruits are surprisingly fairly loyal to their state if they feel they can win at a home state school. Alabama will of course poach a few away but a lot will go to MSU.

A couple more players can end up being the difference for a couple of wins

I haven't been rooting for the ncaa to hammer them but it almost does put a small smile on my face to know they are within a few years (or sooner) of becoming the worst team in the SEC. Quite a few of their fans were pretty insufferable during the 2 years they had an above average football team even though they had to cheat to do it. Ole Miss is about to be bad. Very bad.

Unless the other ones end up being the difference for those schools

If they do, they'll be the next program to hear the ice cold knock of death on their athletic department's door.

Weren't you doing that anyway? Haven't y'all been kicking there asses regularly since Dan Mullen took over? Other than the two years where they had recruiting classes they had no business having I mean.

If Auburn can't do it, I doubt we could. I'd say 7-9 is the standard under Mullen. We'll have a chance for a 10 win season, if we can mold a very productive QB, and some necessary pieces to go along with it. That's certainly possible, but only once every 3-5 seasons.

I doubt it. Dan Mullen is far more shifty and smart than Hugh Freeze and States not going to all of a sudden start signing top 5 recruiting classes. However, top 15 classes are well within their reach and honestly, if Dan does for Fitz what he did for Dak, it could get interesting especially concerning top QB recruits. Dan is already making close to 5 million a year at State. Few teams are going to be willing to pay him more than that without some major hardware. If he happen to start winning some major hardware, I believe State would pony up more money to keep him.

Believe what you want, but Dan Mullen is actually a pretty damn good coach. He's done a lot for the program at State with facilities and on the field. Remember, he damn near took them to Atlanta a few years ago and probably would have won the SEC championship that year if he had. He did that with a lot less talent and money than any other team in the west.

Ole Miss has been awful for extended periods of time in the past. State was never a consistent 9-10 win team then. Not sure why you'd expect any different now. Dan Mullen will not consistently win 5 or more SEC games every year, which is what it would take to be a 9 win football team, including wining all his OOC games, which they have also struggled to do

State is a 6-8 win team under Mullen with a shot at 10 every 3-4 years. 2018 will be State's next chance to win 10 games

OM being down will help some- no doubt.

I see 2019 as being that year. Fitz will be fully developed and very experience and your current recruits will be ready by then. I predict an 8 or 9 win regular season this year with a bowl win. Still a good year for you guys.

in 2019 Fitz will be in the NFL. 2018 is the year with him as a Sr. We are very Jr/Soph heavy in 2017

You think OM being on probation is going to get State 5 more wins?

If Dan Mullen could lock down the state of Mississippi and get the occasional Florida Texas and Louisiana star, I'd say tMSU would start to look similar to Mullen's UF teams.
