Maybe I'm just missing something ... but Thursday night games seem like they'd be a coup for any team to play.
Why are Alabama fans treating them like they're "beneath" them?
Not unlike Monday Night Football, you have the national stage to yourself.
It's a super recruiting tool.
I don't care what team is playing--Saturday games will always have competition from games being played at the same time.

I love Thursday night games - the weekend/drinking starts early and a good game is almost always scheduled. I don't want Bama playing Thursday night games, but I love watching other SEC teams play.

I hope we never play another Thursday night game.
As for the Southern Miss thing, they wanted us to make a trip to their stadium, but we weren't willing to do that. That's why we ended the series with them.

We played one in 2001 against Southern Miss, it was a make up game for Sept 11 week though.
We also played on against Georgia State in 2010.

I can't remember the last time UF played on Thursday. If we did I would guess it would have to be an away game, it would be a logistical nightmare in Gainesville.
