ETA: besides, a great defense is really a huge part of the formula, and is more characteristic of championship teams than offensive philosophy.

Yes the sky is also blue.

Florida had 4000 passing yards and 2000 rush yards in their 1996 national championship. For gods sake Spurriers offense was given the name "AIR BALL".

This is not debatable that a true passing spread offense has ALREADY won a national championship. /end thread

Florida under spurrier ran the ball very well. Utilized the draw to gain tons of yards. They may have set up the run with the pass, but they were a very effective running team.

I can't find the average TOP for those Spurrier Florida teams. Anyone know where to get that info?

That is the most important stat to me. I would have guessed that Florida would have had more TOP.

You're wrong. Pass Heavy means that you pass more than you run

1996 Florida Gators
Season
412 Pass Attempts
441 Rush Attempts

Per Game Avg.
Pass Attempts 31.7 per game
Rush Attempts 34.0 per game

I never heard it called that....Most folks always referred to it as the Fun-N-Gun.
