Florida and Auburn were power running teams when they won, but moving forward I don't think it will happen

Pass heavy teams have won before. Spread is just a variation of the time that will come and go. UF in the 90s, UH run and shoot. Pass heavy teams have won in college before.
ETA i know UH is not sec. My point was passing teams have won just nor with frequency. UF actually had a decent balance but were pass heavy

Not likely. End of the day, you have to put a hat on a hat and score when it matters. There is a reason most years that defensive teams win the NC.

Spread? Sure. You can run the fun'n'gun or Air Raid with a good-to-great defense, which is almost a necessity for a championship.
No-huddle, hurry-up? Unlikely. I know Auburn came close in 2013, but I don't think it's possible to field a serviceable defense with that kind of offense unless you have fantastic skill players and ridiculous defensive depth.

No we weren't. Definitely not in 2008. We had Rainey, Demps and Moody. Maybe Moody was a power back but we were definitely a spread option team.
We had to use our quarterback for our power-running game. I suppose we weren't pass heavy, but definitely weren't power.

A run heavy team burns clock and keeps the ball away from a pass heavy fast scoring team, combine that with a good defense and you'll beat a 50-60 throws a game team most times

Houston never won the SWC with the run and shoot, though. Arkansas and A&M dominated them all but one year, and Texas took care of them that year.

It's not about the offense really, it's about the defense. If you can build a defense that's deep enough; you can use a pass heavy offense more. Most pass based offenses either score quickly or the drives end quickly. So your defense doesn't rest , even if you score. That will catch up in the 4th quarter, unless you can go 2 deep at the front 7 with out losing a beat. I also think the impact in practice hurts the defense; and I know the defense will practice against the opposing teams offense, however when they go best on best, it's not. And that is when stamina and real depth is created.

Florida was a spread team under Meyer and won two MNC's. I remember when he entered the league everyone said "that spread will never work in the SEC." Not only did it work, he dominated with it and forced everyone else to copy.
AU was a power run team in '10 and '13, but did it from spread formations. So, I guess you could say they were a "spread run" team that used tempo. They threw the ball both those years quite a bit, too. But they were a run first team both years.

1996 Florida season total yards: 2040 rushing; 4007 passing.

Florida had good backs in the 90s. I always thought they had good balance, even though they had a great passing game. Three of Florida's top ten rushers played under Spurrier.
ETA: besides, a great defense is really a huge part of the formula, and is more characteristic of championship teams than offensive philosophy.

Spurrier has even said people have forgotten how much they ran the ball when he was at Florida.

That team was nasty, blew the doors off everybody pretty much.

The fact is you have to be a threat to run (power or whatever). Spurrier understood this, and always had the athletes in the backfield that every defense had to respect and account for.
