There are only two programs in the country where you are a 4 or 5 star recruit that will sign to ride the bench for a couple years.

Those programs are Alabama and Ohio State.

Those are the bluest of blue bloods. Those are the schools that get you paid in the NFL.

So yes. I would sit at either

Well, there are some freshmen playing key positions right now.

Why would anyone go to an Ivy League school when they can coast to the head of their class at UC-Santa Cruz?

It's why they lost their kicker to UF.

He played at least a few snaps against OM.

I was thinking the op was being sarcastic since we have about 5 or more true freshmen playing right now.

Easier to sit the bench for three than to research the answer for the old question "How many points are awarded for a successful 3-point shot in bkball?"

I think Saban has proven over the years he is more than willing to start freshmen at any position.

Which position are you referring to? If it's the QB position, you have a point. You will likely be waiting your turn to be QB with Hurts in there. Take Tua Tagovailoa, for example. He is committed to Bama for 2017, so if he can't beat Hurts, the soonest he could start would be in 2019 (that's assuming Hurts goes pro early). But even so, he would be a Junior (or redshirt sophomore) and would likely be plug-and-play for the offense Hurts ran.

But all other positions on the field (sans punter/kicker) get really good rotation, and Saban is known for developing depth so that by the time they are upperclassmen, they have already played a great many snaps.

At the end of the day, injuries, transfers, etc. tend to take their toll and it evens out much more than you might expect.

Saban has always been known for playing players in rotation down the depth chart.

1) Keeps his depth chart experienced in case of injury
2) Keeps his team fresh during game
3) Wears down other teams who don't have the depth
4) Keeps recruits coming to Tuscaloosa because they know they have a chance to play despite the numbers.

Actually not a bad question. A lot of 5 stars are going to ride the bench at Alabama because of the ridiculous depth there

Tell that to the vast # of FR who have played from very early on at Bama - including this year. If you are the best option you will play. If you aren't, you'll learn under the best and get better for when your chance comes (see Ryan Anderson, Tim Williams, etc).

It's hard to get scouted by any NFL team when you have no film.

You do realize there are scouts from multiple NFL teams at every Bama practice. They've got reports on guys who haven't played much at all. When they do play, they'll not be completely unknown to the scouts.

To watch fans of other schools cry and convince themselves that they're up against the refs, SEC offices, etc.

Then drink those tears.

FYI everyone has an 85 scholarship limit, therefore the same amount of players. It's rare that ANY true freshman starts and Saban has proven that IF that player is ready, HE WILL PLAY... That, you will never play at Bama line, is a bunch of BS.

If you want to play with a bunch of scrubs and be "the man", or if you want something given to you then Alabama isn't the school for you. But iron sharpens iron and if you are not afraid of competition, aren't afraid of being developed and want to win championships then there's NO better place, right now, for that opportunity.
