Why is Missouri known as Mizzou?

Are you a little rustled

They went to the SECCG for two years after coming into the SEC. Saying they're among the worst programs over the last 50 years just doesn't compute. They have a new HC who is green. They'll improve.

Pretty sure Mizzou is much more common than Wazzou and was used first.

I read somewhere it's because back in the horse and buggy days, it was common for MSU to be used on everything as an abbreviation for the university (Missouri State University). Pronounce MSU, and you see where Mizzou came from.

Things evolved, and MSU is no longer the proper abbreviation. But the old abbreviation lives on in the nickname.
