Sumlin's a great offensive mind...adding Chief was brilliant. Tons of talent...definitely underrated. Not unlike Auburn's situation in a lot of ways. Auburn's obviously getting the respect though.

A&M 5 years before joining the SEC (33-31):

07: 7-6
08: 4-8
09: 6-7
10: 9-4
11: 7-6

Tennessee during those 5 years (33-31):

07: 10-4
08: 5-7
09: 7-6
10: 6-7
11: 5-7

Not to mention A&M transitioned from the Big 12 to the toughest division in America.

But yeah A&M was by far the better situation right? Tennessee certainly has less excuses for struggling being in the East than A&M does.

Butch Jones didn't arrive until 2013, dummy.

Their coach playing for an NC in year 1 will do that.

I know, the poster referred to the fact that Sumlin walked into a "great" situation.

Just showing that both situations weren't much different, yet the OP thinks Sumlin is a failure if he doesn't win the WEst this year despite the fact that every team in the West is formidable.

Except they were very different. You didn't even let Derek Dooley finish his last season.

On paper he really didn't aside from the line. Despite people acting like Manziel and Evans were slam dunk superstars coming out of HS one was a short 3* QB with questionable mechanics and the other was a 2* WR who had played like one year of organized football. But this board will always use the 20/20 hindsight to say that they would have been stars with any coach on earth

Well, I'm an Auburn fan so I'm not complaining...was just noticing the parallels...and comparing and contrasting.

Except for Evans and Manziel, and to an extent Malena and Kennedy, what offensive talent?

If you want a real answer.

It Takes 22-44 players to be truly great. We had a decent defense in '12 but they were all seniors and damontre Moore.

We transitioned from a big 12 roster to an sec roster. take a lot.
We replaced the worst DC in the league with a top 5 DC in the country. We're recruiting at a high level.

This year will be a (nearly) mature Sumlin team. We expect a good year.

Despite the obstacles, Sumlin is averaging 9.5 wins.

We'll learn a lot about Sumlin this year.

Not to mention he can't claim anything the offense did because he inherited it, but can't use that same line of reasoning for the defense

People give zero fricks about A&M outside of College Station. Post like these are why your fan base is the most delusional in the country.
