why is Jalen hurts getting so much credit?

I'll give him his due. great talent. great poise as a freshmen. great fit for what Alabama wants to do this year. but if he didn't have that defense, wouldn't all the praise be about what the Tide can look forward to in years to come?
If he had to pass behind this offensive line to win games, they would be in a hard place.
he's a good player for this team, but he's not a great qb this year. I just don't understand all the drooling over him.

That's pretty much your answer. I don't see anyone seriously voting for him for the Heisman, but it's impressive to see what he's done as a true freshman.

Key word and you used it twice....if.

honestly I agree. everybody else just sucks so bad this year it hasn't been an issue.

doesn't explain why analysts are drooling over his qb skills like he's the best thing since sliced bread. I mean, compared to desean Watson and lamar Jackson, you can get that because these guys carry their teams to a large extent.

Because it makes L6U fans come here and ask why we do it and we're like..

Because the kid has been awesome leading the only undefeated team in the nation (that matters) as a freshman.

I really think the coaches deserve the praise for not being stubborn and actually going with the player that gives us the best chance to win. even if he cant throw

Hurts QB rating is higher than Watsons.

quote:I haven't seen this drooling. He's a very young QB starting for the reigning national championship team. The team is 10-0 today, ranked #1 in the CFP and headed to their 3rd straight SECCG.

It is logical to think that the analysts are taking notice that a truefrosh/18 yr old QB is helping lead one of the top 4 teams in the country.

I really haven't seen him getting a ton of credit like you are making it seem in the the OP.
Alabama fans have largely been fairly measured in their assessment of Hurts. Really good for a true freshman, really good runner, passing game needs work, a few too many turnovers, seems to be naturally poised and a good leader.
I honestly haven't seen the overhype/too much credit you are talking about. Of course an undefeated Alabama QB is going to get talked about and he did just become the first Bama QB to put up 300 passing / 100 rushing in a game and overall his stats are good.

Have you seen Jackson's stats as a freshman? They weren't that much different than Hurts'
Jalen Hurts

He's thrown and rushed for a lot of yards/tds and never lost a game. He's had some bad throws and turnovers but they have never come in bunches. He's done all this as a true freshman.
Most impressively though, he doesn't act like an asshat.

Because he is freakin' awesome for a freshman QB - who also beat out 5-star guys, while playing in the best conference, at the best college program in America.

It's true. According to the experts, Hurts plays behind one of the best offensive lines in the SEC, second only to LSU's line. Can't overlook that.

Running is part of his skill set, and he is a borderline elite runner from the QB position. If '95 Nebraska had to pass to win games, they might've been in trouble too. They could run it though. Make sense?
He actually looked like a competent passer against MSU. Obviously guys were open because of the talent gap, but he was getting rid of the ball on time which has been his biggest issue. He is better as a true freshman than Lamar Jackson was a year ago. He hasn't made many costly mistakes, particularly for a freshman. I think you'd be crazy to say he isn't good right now, with the potential to be scary down the road

thanks to you guys who understand I'm not trolling or criticizing. I have heard a fair amount of analysts giving him credit like he is carrying this team. i'm surprised you guys haven't seen it because a lot of it is from finebaum's show, and nobody has more love and respect for your program than he. so i'm surprised that you don't tune in enough to hear it.
how many qb's couldn't prosper at Alabama with that defense? you have the star targets at wide receiver and TE. they are just not getting their names called much this year.
