Recruiting is being overplayed. He just pulled in our best offensive class since Meyer was here. His defensive recruiting has left some questions, but the class should be solid this year. McElwain seems like he is a damn fine in game coach and knows how to make swift adjustments. I think X's and O's will outweigh his above average recruiting and UF should be consistent with him as HC.

But as a head coach at USCe who would honestly want to play for him. It still blows my mind that USCe even hired the dude.

He showed that he can win with talented teams--he went to the Sugar Bowl in 2012. His biggest problem was that he hitched his wagon to the wrong QB.

Yeah the defensive recruiting would concern me but otherwise I think y'all will win the East again this year.

If Saban or Meyer has taught us anything its that recruiting can never be "overplayed".Its everything in today'S P5 CFB.

You have to get,at minimum top 10 classes every year if you want to compete. You also have to keep these guys in school and your roster close to the 85 max year in and out.

He won the east with a horrible o line, a decent qb for half a season. And one of the worst qb's in Sec history. Virtually one decent wr, who was a freshman. And a rb drafted in the 6th round. The talent on offense is improved, and the defense will still be pretty good.

Because he didn't really prove anything last year. The SEC East was awful. We also don't need to react too quickly to a season like we did with Gus.

Just saw Sporting News has him ranked 6th in the SEC behind Arkansas' HC Bret Bielema.

The Athlon Sports College Football rankings had him as the 8th best coach in the SEC.

The guy wins the SEC East in his first year and coaches at Florida. They have tons of talent yet he isn't seen as a higher rated coach. My question is, what am I missing here with this guy?
You need to realize the quality of HCs he's being ranked against ain't chicken soup. If he wins for a couple of more seasons, he'll get the respect.

Yes, use the 2 best coaches in CFB at schools that recruit themselves as examples. Forget about Briles, Herman, Fedora, Freeze, etc.

I think recruiting is important, I just think some are being overly critical of his recruiting this far. UF needed to inject talent on the offensive side of the ball badly, and that's what he has done. This class will be more balanced.

Freeze?WTF?Go back and look at '13 recruting rankings.
Fedora,Herman and Briles?Call me when they're winning
SEC titles without top 10 classes.

If I was a Gator fan my only concern would be his recruiting so far

You are a Gator fan though. For some reason you wanted to make an Alabama alter when your other account is banned, I guess.

Ole Miss has never recruited itself and Freeze has had 1 exceptional class.

What's Georgia's excuse? Looking back since 2009 you've had a top 10 class every year besides 2 classes.

What does recruiting "itself" have to do with anything?
They also finished with a top 10 class in '16.

As stated earlier you also HAVE to keep the guys in school amd come close to a roster of 85 scholarships
every year.

Something CMR never did.Look at the '12 SECCG
We had maybe 68 scholarship players compared to
Bamas 85

Look deeper into last year, beyond the surface.
