Thanks...lol. Part flame and part legitimate bewilderment at how consistently bad both programs have mostly been for the last several years. The baseball team may try to top them all this year. A losing record and we haven't even gotten into the meat grinder that is the SEC schedule. 50/50 shot the baseball team doesn't win a single SEC series this year. How exactly do you manage to lose to Southern?

Watch Auburn end up winning the SEC in basketball next year after all this...lol.

Does Cam Newton play basketball, too?

Because it's baseball and losing one game in a series isn't shocking. We beat the crap out of them in the other two games. We have a weak bullpen and struggle defensively. If our bats go cold this year we are probably going to lose. My hopes for baseball aren't very high this year, especially in the early part of the season. Butch hasn't been here long and we lost our ace for the season (and all likelihood for good since he will almost certainly go pro).

ETA: In regards to basketball, I'm not worried as long as Bruce stays and I don't see him leaving right now. But if a big time program comes calling I wouldn't blame him for leaving.

He's a full blown retard for sure. Football is the definition of inconsistent, but nowhere near horrible "year in year out."

Well yeah, he did. But the players we have signed are better.

AU basketball won't be bad for long. Pearl can flat out recruit and he'll have them very talented and in sweet sixteen within the next 2-3 years.

Basketball has never been a priority at AU until they built the new Arena. They use to go out and find a cheap coach that they thought was an up and comer. Things have changed with Pearl, but it will take time. Another factor with AU and Bama is the decline of HS Basketball in Alabama.
You ever heard of Joel Eaves?

SEC Basketball before desegregation was like watching the South African Olympic Team play a few years ago. Any records during those years means our white guys were better than your white guys. I think they still used Peach Baskets back then.

I believe this. ^^^^^

But it's got to be rough on Bruce to still find himself serving in purgatory for a little backyard BBQ 5+ years ago.

AU is not purgatory for any Basketball HC. You have an AD that doesn't know anything about Basketball and leaves the program alone. All he does is write the check. Pearl can get anything from AU at this point without having to compete with the Football Program. It is the ideal situation, with resources combined with fan expectation. It is all on Pearls back. Not too many coaches in this league can say that.

Good facilities in both sports yet basketball hasn't had a winning season since Lebo was coach.

Right now basketball just is trying to recover from some absurd roster management and recruiting issues from the Barbee era. To give you an idea

Barbee players by recruiting class that made it to Bruce Pearl Era

2011- None
2012- 3* Jordan Granger
2013- 2* Tahj Sahmsid Dean (Career ending injury)
2014- None

Bruce wasn't allowed to recruit (show cause) and didn't have anyone on the roster to work with.

Given Auburn fanbases' cult like obsessions when we win and our football team being a dumpster fire, Auburn basketball won't stay purgatory (other than small city sucks)

Auburn easily could be a small city version of UPitt. They are a legit basketball institution now but were nothing before Ben Howland came into town.

Two years completely out of coaching for show cause, followed by two losing seasons for the first time in your entire coaching career would feel like purgatory for someone like Bruce.

The pieces are in place for him to build something competitive and be successful at AU. But the man got to feel like shite when he sits back reflecting on his career over the last 4-5 years.

Phillip Marshall writes about a coach with "gravel in his gut & spit in his eye".....that's Bruce more so than sweater vest Gus.

Bruce would be more miserable in the studio right now. He has control over his own program like no other coach in the league. Any coach worth their salt would love the position Pearl is in right now.

That and the basketball team's "bad" seasons still usually involve winning seasons and some form of postseason play albeit the NIT. Auburn, on the other hand, may have as many 20 LOSS seasons in basketball as 20 win seasons.
