re: Why haven't Mizzou fans embraced the SEC like Texas A&M fans have?

Plus one thing that might seem mean spirited to Mizzou fans (but it honestly isn't) is at least on paper we match up better than they do when it comes to the SEC's big sport- football.

We have a real football national title (even if its dusty), we (now) have the SEC's biggest stadium, we have $100+ million in yearly revenue, we have amazing facilities, and we have a local talent base that can compete with any in the country. On paper we are a match for most of the SEC.

Meanwhile Mizzou has a stadium that even with expansions will never be bigger than 4th in the SEC, a so-so local recruiting base, a middle of the road revenue figure, and a commitment from their fans nowhere near the top SEC programs.

Now admittedly they have done better in football in the SEC than us (mostly thanks to the guy who is their second best head coach all time), but the fact remains on paper it SEEMS like we can compete more which keeps our fanbase motivated to try. Hell after it was obvious last year that WiBO wasn't an obvious upgrade over Pinkel they packed it in and got ready for the MLB season. It will take decades for them to internalize the SEC hunger for gridiron success if they ever get there.

I think the move to the SEC was more logical. The Big 10 move was based on the old guard, who still lived in the Big 8 days. The Big 10 has always been overrated. Does Missouri miss playing KU? Sure but they are still butt hurt bc we had an option out of a shitty situation. I have spent a lot of time in Wisconsin and Minnesota and I am often asked what part of the south am I from. I say Missouri and they respond that I am not a Yankee. We do not fit in with the Big 10. We better fit in with the SEC. We are more like the SEC with similar culture(Similar not exactly the same, dont get it mixed up). I have spent enough in Time in both SEC and Big 10 country to say we are SEC. Our Football and Basketball will return soon. I get that they are down but in Football every East team is down and outside of UK and USCe basketball is bad. So we are par for the course at the moment

I really want Missouri basketball to get back. Would be a huge addition because that place is awesome and fun when they are good and that's what we paid for.

I think they'd fit great. And they, like A&M, are sick and tired of supposed big bro running their league and treating them like arse.

However.........

wont leave the ACC

Probably not, though from reading things I'm not sure their fans would be opposed to it.

It's culture. A&M fits like a glove. I went College Station to the AU/A&M game in '15 and I immediately felt like it was an SEC town. And the game felt like we had played a hundred times.

When we played Mizzou in the SEC Championship Game in '13, it was weird. I was engaging with their fans, or at least trying to before the game, and it felt like I was talking to force the conversation about football. Couple that with the whole capitulation thing with their President being forced to resign for absolutely no reason other than some punk arse kid lying and you have an awkward fit in the SEC.

100% agree, the exact feelings I had when A&M came to town in 2012 and then we played Missouri in 2014 in Atlanta.

It comes across as mean and it really isn't meant like that. Missouri folks were fun and nice and cool, but it definitely felt like a Music City Bowl game as opposed to an SEC game. Playing A&M immediately felt like playing Ole Miss or Arkansas. Right off the bat.

I dont buy State as a fit. they are not committed enough to football. and just fired the best coach they had in a long in Gottfried.

They have a pretty decent stadium and fill it on a regular basis. They are also the loudest non-Clemson crowd in the ACC per basically everything I read. They love football moreso than most of the other ACC Basketball schools.

Gottfried is a clown. I don't know why they hired him in the first place. Trust us.

You guys are talking about playing in ATL. not having them in your home or visiting here. So you are catching a wide variety of fans. I know many Mizzou fans who traveled from KC to both Championship games and they said that in '13 they were treated as outsiders but had some good interactions with the people they sat by. They said that the '14 game was better bc they were more welcomed. I spent a few days in Florence, AL for the last D-2 national Champ game and I had great conversations with both Bama and Auburn fans. Most of my friends are big SEC fans of wide ranging SEC teams and they love having MIzozu.

Yea, that's what I was trying to say. I have nothing against Missouri fans. They were fun in 2014 and are good fans. It's just a different fit.

People don't remember this, and there weren't message boards back them to banter it, but folks in Birmingham and Atlanta and Knoxville had these exact same conversations about Arkansas in the 90's.

It just takes a while.

We were ranked #1 in the nation 3 years ago produced the NFL ROTY in Dak Prescot and have been to 7 straight bowls. You have your basketball coach wrong and anyways we hired a guy who has been to 3 final fours and has put numerous players in the NBA

Nice try.

Mizzou isn't a football school. Great school, awesome campus, some surprisingly good teams, but it isn't a football school.

Texas A&M is a football school.

Yeah, but...

I'm happy Missouri is in the SEC. But strictly as a football fan (though every one of these Baylor/Penn State/Tennessee/Minnesota incidents make me less and less of one), I think the B1G would have been a better option.

Personally if I was the B1G... Big, once Notre Dame turned me down for the last time, I would have invited Missouri and Kansas.

Think about that for a second. Get Nebraska back on the schedule, Kansas stays, and I'm sure you could work out something with Illinois and Iowa.

The further West you go, the further you have to drive, but that is still some pretty doable road trips for the students. Just think it would have been better.

The way it works now, you really only have Arkansas that fits the bill of a rival you can sink your teeth into (that should have happened a long time ago just by geography).

Instead now you have like a 17 hour drive from Columbia to Columbia. Not the same as a 6 hour or whatever to most of the schools I mentioned.

Pinkel sure owned aTm's arse. Just a fact.

M-I-Z! S-E-C! Fvck in B1G and that is not sour grapes.

Right now, we are down in the two big sports. We'll be back. But this hurts our spirit and maybe effects your current perception.

We are a border state due to geography. We killed each other in the great war, and still don't get along with each other. Just a fact.
