Still not seeing any coach being mentioned that weren't successful in the college ranks first. These types don't come up very often. Bama and mich lucked out with timing. I would say harbaugh loved the college game more then all the crap in the NFL. Control freak and his school. Perfect timing. That's what it takes.
Kelley and Carroll would need to want to come back. Both are probably waiting for some sketch things they left behind to get older. Would they both be as successful without some of the overlooked "wink wink" stuff they needed?? Takes a big school to take the pretty easy chance, but the NFL stint helps get past needing some of all that too.
Ie...I would think Cooter the Lions OC might think of coming to UT if approached, but about the only school that would peak his interest right now. Especially since he's been steadily climbing up the NFL ranks. Either he feels he needs to get College HC experience to get looked at as an NFL coach. Or he finally moves up to an NFL HC, but stalls out success wise. Then UT would love that experience. Takes perfect timing with some luck, and ADs (w/ boosters) to pull the trigger quick.
In a nut shell...easier said then done. Ha!!

You do realize Carroll was successful without Reggie and the "wink" stuff you speak of right?
Also, for the millionth time, he was being paid by agents to sign with them once he went pro. Pete did not pay him no matter what you guys wanna tell yourselves.

Chip Kelly would be a good hire for LSU.

Can Arkansas get a frickin shout out OP?
We hired BP from ATL, obviously we're right with Bama and Michigan in job desirability and tradition.

Because not all college2NFL coaches suck in the NFL like Saban and Harbaugh.
One led his team to a Super Bowl. The other is Nick Saban.

Didn't a saban scount end all of 1 year in the NFL? He's hardly an NFL coach

Very few colleges have the combination of name brand and $ to attract NFL coaches.
Bama and Michigan do.
Bama and Michigan do.

Arkansas?
I mean shite, might as well call it back to back NFL hires since Burt went to 3 BCS bowls in the Big 10.
Biggest back to back hires in the nation? I'd say so.

If you're a NFL coach who isn't in danger of losing your job, why go to CFB? There isn't really a better job in CFB than the NFL just because of the nature of the two job types. The rules and pay are generally good enough reasons for a lot of guys.
As for Harbaugh, he is the exception. There isn't another coach in NFL history that I know of who left a successful NFL career for CFB. He also left due to a power struggle with the GM.
