Why don't more colleges hire NFL head coaches like Bama and Michigan?

I realize it didn't work so well for Tennessee, but I'm referring to current successful coaches, not people that were fired from NFL jobs. Instead everyone gambles on the next hot upcoming coach that had a good record against fellow MAC, AAC, or CUSA teams.

How many schools do you think can afford to attract an NFL type coach?

Because there aren't many NFL coaches like that with college experience at a high level?

Because not all college2NFL coaches suck in the NFL like Saban and Harbaugh.

Some guys don't like the grind of college football coaching. The NFL doesn't have as many rules away from the actual game that cfb has. That's a big no for a lot of guys

until recently, colleges weren't paying NFL money.

because the ones mentioned in your OP weren't successful in the NFL. generally the ones with success don't want to leave the big show.

Three straight NFC title games isn't considered successful?

But they can afford to pay the new AAC coach they hired $5M a year while also paying the guy they just fired $5M a year until his contract is up.

You are replying to the wrong guy. I agree with you. Harbaugh was a good NFL coach. Saban was still early in his NFL career, he would have been good too.

Why not go after Pete Carrol? I realize there were NCAA issues, but lots of good coaches have had NCAA issues at one time or another.

It isnt working out for UCLA, Nebraska like the two you mentioned. For every Pete Carollo you get a Dave Wannstedt

Saban actually had more NFL coaching experience than Harbaugh. Saban was a DB coach in Houston. A defensive coordinator in Cleveland. And then a head coach in Miami. He just wasn't a fit for the head coaching position in the NFL.

Carroll is in a perfect spot right now, he works very well with the GM there. He ain't leaving that for a college job. Also, there's no issues for him if he ever went back to college. He was not blamed at all by the NCAA.
