Can be a very tall order if the QB gets hot. And sometimes it's on the players to make something happen. You can call a solid game but if the DL isn't getting there or keeps rushing too far up field there's not much the coach can do besides pop a vein on the sideline.

LSU plays a 4-3, with smaller faster linebackers usually, while Bama plays a 3-4 with bigger bodies.
The way to expose a 3-4 is over the middle (drew a PI and a lot of the bigger players were over the middle) by forcing LBers who are 250 lbs into space, and on the outside, where you have a 200 lb rb matched up on 275 lbs DEs or 250 Lbs LBers. Bama has the rare guys who are usually that size and as fast as most teams non huge dudes.

Exactly which is why every championship contender should be recruiting dual-threat QB's. I mean even in a predominately pro-style offense like Bama's, why not have an athletic QB who can add multiple other options to your offense?

I think it really boils down to his actual nature *edit* mixed with the unpredictable nature of those kinds of plays.
I would wager this man has a 5 point game plan going in to drop a deuce. So, his default understanding of how to put some X's and O's mechanics to what basically amounts to random/chaos being turned into positive yardage by an X factor like a QB being chased is not very good.
Then again... there's not a lot that many coaches have done that have totally put that sort of wild card INTO control, because it really boils down to the QB not making a major mistake. It's virtually impossible to predict and therefore to plan for.
You can tell your guys "hey, play heads up football. be prepared for anything... watch him" all you want.

I agree, which is why our last two QB signees (Barnett and Hurts) both bring athleticism to the position. They aren't going to run the read option, but they have the athleticism to scramble and hurt teams with their legs, keep things alive. You can see the benefit we got even with Blake Sims last year versus Coker this year. We were sacked 25 times this season. Last year we were sacked 16 times. It's not because of the OL. It's because Sims was more adept at evading pressure.

Watson got some running yards, and had a few scrambles that worked well, but that whole game was about his throwing ability.
While some passes were to wide open guys, alot were thrown on what looked like good coverages. Just some perfect placements that would beat any defense, college or pro.

Watch how teams played MV back in the day. They slow played their DLs to try to keep him in the pocket so they can still run their coverages without losing a man.
You honestly believe Bamas Dline just didnt show last night? No they slow played and tried to stay in their gaps, players said after the game we just tried to keep him in the pocket.
Players like that make defenses play scared but usually end up hurting themselves more by not just going after them.

Might be true overall, but your RG (#76) was abused all night by Clemson's DE. A mobile QB may have made him play contained, but the OL was not the strongest part of your team last night by any means.
