Hasn't it been on CBS every season since the early 1980s?
CBS started broadcasting college football again in 1996. The only year that I can remember the WLOCP not being on CBS since then was in 2002.

Because it's The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
One of the best rivalries in all of college football

Rivalries be damned.
If in the preseason you had to pick a place to be that weekend, it would always be Jacksonville.
The party of parties. And a football game somewhere in those festivities to boot.
CBS doesn't care about making money. They want to know where the hoes are at.

game every year before the season even starts so far in advance?
Makes no sense that games is the CBS game this year.
Curious why they go ahead and pick that game every year before the year...especially since Florida has been a dumpster fire.

I understand. You are Ole Miss.
It's been so long for y'all since a mid-season rivalry has meant so much...
I know, y'all just got your "once every 8 or 12 year win" over Bama, and UF had taken control of this series.
But MOST YEARS, this game is for something, and EVERY YEAR, this game is compelling and attracts a national audience.
Who knows, if the Black Bears can stay competitive for five years or so, they MIGHT have a mid-season rivalry that CBS demands.
Maybe Arkansas? or LSU, if you can start winning that one more often...

add: 2 of the best SEC schools academically (Minus A&M and Vandy)
Yes, this is why that big Brown-Cornell matchup gets so much air play every season.
If there's one thing that puts southerners tuned in to a televised football game, it's academic merit.

You UGA fans can come and talk about the traditions until you're blue in the face but nobody gives a flying shite about watching Muschamp get his arse beat up and down the field yet again.
If this game has entertainment television value, it will be watching Boom have a nervous breakdown in front of CBS cameras.

Also the 2 most important SEC schools. DWI.

The country gets to watch UGA put the death nail in an alum coaching for a rival school since he'll be fired that Monday

Because usually it is also a pretty good game no matter how much better one school is on paper.
Because UGA threw an end zone party in 2007
because it is Urban Meyer taking it completely personally the next year.
because it has its own Hall of Fame
because of Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott
because of property being destroyed tonight
because of Frat Beach
because it is its own carnival
Because unless Ole MIss actually wins the SEC, everyone will forget they were even good this year in 1-2 years.

most posters here realize ole miss is new to the sec, with this being the first actual football team you've fielded since grand pa manning fifty years ago, so we try to answer new members (aTm, UM, both Mississippi schools) patiently.
You'll get the hang of it.

Kentucky still has more SEC titles in the last 50 years than Ole Miss... in Football.

Maybe rather than it being because of the rivalry....maybe it's because of the contract the SEC has with CBS? I haven't done any research but it's just a thought. Two pretty big fan bases that are bound to draw viewership regardless of the situation. Plus these two teams are nationally recognized.....just like Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc.

No one has mentioned the most important thing here:
Consistent 3:30 kicks announced well in advance allow folks to make their party plans in Talleyrand and the surrounding islands consistent. Know what fricks up a party? A 7pm kick on espn. 3:30 is perfect for this game in and around the stadium and cbs knows it. Wouldn't be surprised if Jacksonville has some money involved in steering them that way either

No doubt. Our 'dumpster fire' teams never seemed to make CBS though.
And Arkansas who was 0-8 in the SEC last year, was on CBS. Seems to say what people think of Ole Miss.
