The funny thing about the whole thing is that claiming all those titles resulted in exactly what they set out to accomplish. Which is to make the University of Alabama look as good as it possibly could in relation to other traditional powers to get an advantage (however slight) in recruiting, donations, etc.

30 years after that change was made to start claiming more titles, Alabama has won 4 more National Championships and is unquestionably one of the most tradition-rich, power teams in the history of football.

And having Auburn consistently get the red-arse over it just puts the topping on the cake. It's the ultimate troll. No self respecting Bammer thinks we actually have claim to 15 at this point, but watching everyone else pitch their annual off-season fits is just too much fun to go back now.

After we win #16 this year we really should just keep the claim at 15 and drop '41

I'm all for it.

Although 1945 was ours and we didn't win it.

They also claim one from 1964 when they proceeded to lose their bowl to Texas. That's why most fans consider Arkansas the 1964 National Champion in football.
Who has the 1964 AP and Coaches/UPI trophy in their trophy case? Thanks.

Dame and Michigan played a tougher schedule than Bama.

All three went undefeated.

Dame and Michigan tied each other.

They are more deserving because they faced better competition and did not lose.

Notre Dame and Michigan State (not Michigan, btw) also refused to play in bowl games. So all you folks so anxious to negate Bama's NCs in years where they lost in a bowl are being pretty silly. So what Bama should have done in 1964 was to just stay home, right?

Michigan State could not play in a bowl game. Until the 1975 season the only bowl a Big 10 team could play in was the Rose Bowl. And, until the 1972 season, there was a "no repeat" rule. Michigan State won the Big 10 in 1965 and went to the Rose and won again in 1966. Purdue was the Big 10 'representative.'

All are legit imo except 41'. I hate that one and wish we'd drop it.

The first ones 25', 26' and 30' are some of the most important imo, even though they are pre-AP. These Rose Bowl wins are what started our tradition and led to Bryant's arrival in 58' and that led to Saban's arrival in 07'.

I wish we could discuss this more often.

But seriously, we're about to add one more to the long list of UA titles.

bama's pre-bear NC's were shared with multiple teams each year. Some years had 6 to 8 other teams named NC. I have always wondered how many of those schools "claimed" a retroactive NC?

I would like to hear further arguments on why Alabama didn't deserve the 1966 NC.

With the exception of 1941 (which should never have been claimed), all of the titles are based on either Rose Bowl victories or wire service championships. I am fine with just the wire titles, as that still makes Bama the only school with ten or more titles.

Can we all take off our homer glasses and just all admit that Alabama is the greatest football program ever regardless of how many NC we claim. Thanks.

Several of Bear's were split between AP & UP. If it's UP or AP pre-BCS I think you have to count it. If it's pre-AP then I think you need a Rose Bowl win to count it. If it's pre-Rose Bowl then I have no friggin clue how to do it.

Som? Norte Dame?

Chad Kelly, is that you? The spelling makes me think it's a strong possibility.

A nice round 30 is very reasonable ....I like the way you think......you can add 2010 to this list when you back out the illegal players. That gives us 4 in a row and a cool 31 titles....print the shirts I am on my way to Academy
