I don't think it is an insult. Now northerners automatically think white southern males are redneck, hillbilly, cousin fricking racists.

But yeah go ahead living life with your head stuck up your arse and your pasty arse women.

Dang... Do you guys know where it comes from? A bunch of farmers with no army decided to go to war with the most powerful army and navy on earth at the time. So passionate was their desire to win that many times early on they would charge to fight the British without a gun. They would run up to the British soldier and YANK their gun from them. Hence the term, "Yankees". No, it's not an ignorant term. To think of the people who use it as uneducated is to misunderstand the full heritage of where the term derived.

That is bullshite, please provide a link to that explanation.

Yankees tend to have one thing wrong with their faces. It's either a big nose, satellite ears, a lazy eye, something. I don't know why but there's always some physical abnormality with yankees.

They use "yankee" as a term for anyone that is educated or shows any semblance of class. Conversely people use "redneck" for anyone that is uneducated and lacks class.

Stuff your mouth full of cotton balls, and then pinch your nose and start talking. That's what a disgusting Yankee accent sounds like. You don't hear it, only us dumb rednecks can.

he's a perfect example of the sad, pathetic, pinkel fanboys that cling to the idiocy of div "championships"..

and yes, they are pretty much a disgrace to the SEC.

this is also a double handle of the reedus on the mizzou board,, (a board admin double handling) even more pathetic.

Because your buddy Reginald started in on the south.

By the way, you don't capitalize 'yankee'. Nothing proper about yankees.

If you want a real answer...

You should probably ask this on the Political board .

But, that notwithstanding, I think it's really about Reconstruction. While there was plenty of bitterness about the Confederacy losing the War, the multigenerational resentment toward northerners was beaten into us during Reconstruction.

Neither Southern nor Northern people realize the long term impact on our psyche.

I imagine it is because northerners generally consider themselves betters to southerners. Which is why it is so curious that they move south in droves amongst all of us uneducated types. Unfortunately they bring their terrible accents and rude, shitty attitudes with them.

This is a funny question though, because we East Tennesseans get called hillbilly often as if this is some deprecatory term. I have always found great pride in my Appalachian heritage and I don't think I would fare too well living far from these hills. I wouldn't want to be anything other than a hillbilly.

Edit: And I get what the op was trying to do and accept my place as another fish in the barrel.

My favorite things that some yankee types do is to assume that all southerners are racist, prejudiced etc.

Do they even realize when they blanket a group like that, that they are being prejudiced?

that moron seems very much like a beaker wannabe, they're the type that refers to Mizzou as "slavers", and they think it's cool.
