First of all, he doesn't need defending. But even to the extent that anyone thinks he does, what's not to defend? He's an amazing player who has demonstrated nothing but tremendous character and sportsmanship in addition to all-world talent. Sitting out a game while he is injured, especially with the draft coming up in the offseason, is completely understandable and justified, but idiots in the media are attacking him unfairly. Hell, six months ago, media talking heads were saying he should sit out the whole season just to avoid injury. Now they are bitching about him sitting out one game when he actually has an injury. It's bullshite, and there's no reason why LSU fans, or anybody else, shouldn't call them out on it.

quote:

Is it because LSU fans really love and appreciate the guy for his contributions?

Of course we love and appreciate him for his contributions. We also have eyes and brains and can see that his decision to sit out this game is totally justified.

quote:

Or...is it because they have spent the last 3 years (4 counting his recruitment) pumping him up to be the greatest thing since cochon de lait and they refuse to admit he didn't live up to their expectations?

Yes, LSU fans have (rightfully) hyped him since he committed to LSU, but the idea that LSU fans would have some psychological impediment to admitting that a hyped recruit didn't live up to expectations is ridiculous. LSU fans have always been more than willing to admit when one of our players is/was overhyped. Remember Ryan Perrilloux?

The obsession with Fournette from Bama fans is unreal

It's weird, which is normal for a Gump. They're extremely jealous of anyone or any other team getting attention. Bama fans are mentally and emotionally a 14 year old girl.

You guys have been understandably absent this year. You had to see the beginning and middle to understand the ending.

Apparently you don't remember Ryan Perrilloux, then. Or Russell Shepard. Or Josh Booty. Or the others.

This is the answer. It's a psychological phenomenon with LSU fans. Stubborn and hot headed runs in the bloodlines. These people are not the kind who admit weakness or that they were wrong easily.

So, over-emotional, irrational, inflated sense of self, arrogant.

Next time, just write "French".

While at LSU or at the end of their LSU careers, all were roundly vilified by LSU fans and universally considered busts. All were super hyped when they arrived at LSU.

Insufferable and whiny describes this thread well.

Unreal.

I have no idea why he didn't attend. I don't care. I know he was hurt all year and reaggravated a high ankle sprain at least 3-4 times during the season. He kept coming back and he played hurt. He could not cut and he lost explosiveness. You could see it. It was obvious. Plus, every game you had defenders pulling and twisting his ankle in the pile trying to hurt him further. The SEC defenders were the worst. Total pieces of crap ball players. Dirty. But, he kept coming back.

He finally shut it down. I understand. Fournette is not our slave and does not exist for our amusement. I'm glad he wore the Purple & Gold. Maybe one day you will get over him choosing to go to LSU instead of Alabama. For your own mental health, I hope so.

College. LSU fans can tear down a player as easily as build one up.

Hell, some people have been saying Guice is better than Fournette for a couple of years. I'm not one, but hes not much of a dropoff and that's nothing against Fournette.

Ben Simmons.

Last year.

Everyone told us he would be great. He was. But, he quit and was selfish. LSU fans turned on him and despised him by the time he left. He is forgotten.

Fournette is the complete opposite. You have no idea what you are taking about. None.

I cannot recall a bigger obsession from one fanbase to another school's player as big as the obsession Alabama fans with Leonard Fournette. It is actually pretty sad. I am 100% convinced if LF tears it up in the NFL, Alabama fans will probably cry like little bitches all over this board and make threads regarding his performances against Alabama ad-nauseum for the duration of his career.
