Also conference academics

Does the Big 10 actually work together and improve each other. I never understand why it would be a big deal.

We have always wanted TAMU. Slive gave them an open invite. Arky and USCe were like our 3-4 choice. We really didn't want either school. If irc, TAMU and FSU were our top pick(s) in '92.

I think given the market now FSU would have been a mistake as it doesn't add tvs

We were too gay for the west coast.

Yeah, Texas' history of liberal activism and rejection of traditional values and culture make them a shoe in for the PAC12. A&M has always been the "traditional" student body and fits in much better with Southern culture.

Hollywood likes to glorify the rodeo/ fishing buddy gay relationship, but don't really want it IRL

Yup, look up the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. Its worth hundreds of millions in research dollars. It makes the TV money look quaint.

Be careful with that thinking, cord cutting is changing the way college football is distributed rapidly.

I do like to say that thanks to us USC and Mizzou are SEC members though. We take that invite with Arky in 1992 and none of them are members today. I like to think the cocks lose to us every year as their way of saying thanks.

They courted Texas, and when we asked about it those bastards patted us on the head and said "we got you covered." We called the SEC the next day.

So much this. Can you imagine being told that by another college? They had been in talks with the Pac12 regarding us and them without even bothering to let us know. The balls of that idiot. I'm glad it blew up in their faces.

The Pac12, while it has some interesting teams and great locations, suffers immensely from the time zone differences. I'm very glad we didn't wind up there.

Also I want to point out this thread proves that the Texas fans and OU fans who used to infest this forum all offseason because "they just wanted to talk about football" know that they suck.

Because six months ago this thread would have been full of dem baws.

I would have been livid I we joined the PAC. I was livid when they mentioned it. fricking 11pm games against schools I know nothing about and know zero alums from. I knew plenty of people who attended LSU/Arkansas/Ole Miss before we joined the SEC, I know nobody who attended a PAC school outside of a couple people who went to ASU.

That would have been a terrible fit. We'd be flying out to the west coast all the time, playing games late at night that no one would watch, and culturally we'd be nothing like them. Long travel, no exposure, and fanbases we'd never connect with. That's why as soon as Powers told Bowtie that they were going to the PAC and taking us along, he was like "well, if the conference is splitting up, we're going to the SEC." A&M fans had been upset about missing out on joining the SEC ever since we were politically forced into the Big XII. We knew where our natural home was and fought tooth and nail to get there. If we would have gone along to the PAC college football would have been a lot different. There'd be no Longhorn Network because ESPN wouldn't have invented it to keep Texas put after we stalled the PAC move by not going along. Without the Longhorn Network to entrap UTx, there'd be no Big XII. UTx would have eventually gone west. Without A&M there would have been no SEC Network. Mack Brown would probably still be in charge at UTx because they wouldn't have been upset and jealous of the attention and recruiting momentum A&M was getting. A&M wouldn't have fired Sherman because we wouldn't have felt the need to upgrade our coaching to someone who wasn't vocally afraid of the SEC like Sherman was. Without Sumlin there would have been no Johnny Manziel because Sherman wasn't much of a Johnny fan and had another, older QB he liked much more. Without A&M in the SEC there wouldn't have been such a major pipeline of top TX talent to the SEC at large. It goes on and on.

All of that x 1000.

It would have been a colossal mistake to go to the PAC. A&M would have never recovered from such a terrible move.
