I thought that students didn't have to serve because the majority of incoming students are excused by the University Administration and the Commandant?

I don't know the exact reasoning.

So is it a matter of sending students to school while acting as a uniformed member of the armed forces, or are there actual military/war classes that they take?

Again, not trolling, but is it sending men and women to school, having them act as a military unit while learning the same shite as everyone else, or is it a military type schooling thing?

Most of the information is in the link.

Regarding the military training, the actual pre-commissioning (classes directly preparing you to become an officer) is the same standard as ROTC. The cadet training is in accordance with the U.S. Code that I referenced earlier.

Not quite. It's a formal event similar to a "Dining Out".

There's a "Ring Dance" during Parents' Weekend (Weekend either the week before or leading into Muster) in which the seniors officially become "former students".

Honestly, I really dig all of the aTm traditions to which I've been exposed.

I just never understood the cadet thing. Thanks for helping me out.

Unfortunately, since 1996, (and especially 1999), the Cadet Corps has become increasingly isolated from the rest of the student body.

Part of that is the ending of Bonfire after the accident, but a big part of it is the HORRIBLE decision to have the Corps in block seating at Kyle beginning in fall 1996. Prior to that, the cadets would pull tickets with their respective class and were disbursed among the rest of the students, allowing them to interact with their civilian classmates and allowing the underclassmen a respite from the "corps games".

frick Hopgood, Bowen, Southerland, and Groff for their stupid initiative.

Supposedly, Patton said this in response to the efforts of one of his commanders who was an Ag after his success in an engagement compared to one of his subordinate USMA graduate commanders who just gave him excuses.

As the legend goes, he was really pissed and said something to the effect of, "Give me an army of West Point graduates if we're just trying to win a single battle. Give me a handful of Texas Aggies and I'll win this whole goddamn war!!"

It's a slang term to describe the regimented lifestyle and various restrictions.

"From the outside looking in, you can't understand it, from the inside looking out, you can't explain it" - But I'll do the best I can.

Got it. I always thought the university embraced that shite. Were they trying to make it more accessible in the lean years?

Not sure I understand the question. The Corps Block seating, supposedly, was put in place because the new commandant thought that having the cadets on TV more would more positively impact recruiting efforts.

probably a decent idea. The corps is one of the very unique things about aTm. Couldn't hurt.

That being said, I know absolutely shite about it and I bow the frick out.
