Les Miles is worse

Gus hasn't done anything with a QB he has recruited from high school and developed either. I mean as an OC or HC. All his good QBs were either already there or 4th year JUCOs. I think Jeremy Johnson will be good next year, but we'll see.

I expect Cam to improve our situation, but we were in an adjustment period last year. You'll see a lot better QB play this year.

Considering Saban has won 4 NC's, 1 at LSU and 3 at Alabama, I think it's reasonable to suggest that his QB's have for the most part filled their roles on their respective team. When you have a superior OL and solid RB's, you don't need an outstanding QB as much as a game manager who takes care of the ball. Although it is a bit surprising that Bama hasn't had a real pro prospect at QB under Saban. I conclude that both smart and talented QB's are pretty hard to come by.

Go on...

09 - 10 McElroy (1 SEC title, 1 national title)
11 - 13 McCarron (1 SEC title, 2 national titles)
14 Sims (1 SEC title)

So every starter going back 6 seasons has won an SEC title, are you upset that our backup qb's aren't better? Is there a flaw in the way those kids are holding the clipboard? Would we benefit from increased efficiency in signing plays in?

For real. David Greene, Matthew Stafford, and Aaron Murray. That's about as good a decade as you can have as far as college quarterbacks

Great point. Our QB's have sucked every year he has been there.

It's not as if most college QB's go on to NFL careers. Especially if they never start in college. I'm guessing when these kids transfer, they kind of realize any shot at the NFL is gone and don't try as hard etc.

PS: Luke Del Rio was a walk on, and Morris and McLeod were never expected to be starters really. Bateman either really.

And Fanuzzi was a last-minute signee shortly after Saban arrived (largely due to the influence and connections of Major Applewhite in the greater San Antonio area)

Also, USC ran a pro-style offense for years and had terrific QB play with Palmer, Leinart, Booty, and Sanchez. I don't think the spread to pro-style offense transition is a valid excuse for poor QB play.
Bruh, the west coast is a QB factory; way better than the southeast.

Didn't he have the same problem at LSU? If I recall correctly, poor QB play derailed a couple of their seasons while he was there. Rohan Davey was inherited from their previous coach so Saban doesn't really deserve any credit for him. Matt Mauck was a decent QB for them but he was an older guy who played minor league baseball and those players have always been pretty easy to develop.

Yep. However Rohan Davey did have the best single season in LSU history in 2001. No way he could have done that with Dinardo.

2002 and 2004 were both seasons that QB play hurt Saban. Mauck was injured for majority of the 2002 season, and Marcus Randall had to play. And in 2004 Saban couldn't decide who to start between Russell and Randall, so they split playing time.

Yup he was, but every other guy, including Matt Barkley and Matt casell(who was leinart's backup than switched to tight end, but is now an nfl qb) were all so. Cal guys.

You lost me at Luke Del Rio. He was a walk-on player.

Maybe the QB's want to play and understand that no.2 at Bama is a limited on field adventure at best.

That is life as a QB. RB's get to split time, OL men interchange, as do DL men, but Saban like to stick with one QB for the most part.

I wish this were the case with LSU. I worry we will see both QBs this year until someone takes over. Not good, considering MSU is week 2.

The last three times Alabama broke in a new QB, we won the SEC each time.
