I know the Bama fans are going to say I'm throwing shade, but I'm not. I just want to know why Bama has had a hard time getting the right qb's, take a look.
Again I'm not denying the success Saban has had its great, I just want to know what's going on with their quarterbacks now.
07' Nick Fanizzi- Transferred to Rice, never played much

08' Star Jackson- Transferred to Georgia State and was 5th string on a team that was created just a few years before.

09' AJ McCarron- thank god for him

10' Phillip Sims- Transferred twice, ended up at some D2 school

10'- Blake Sims- See above

11'- Phillip Ely- Transferred to I think Toledo

12'- Alec Morris- Was trying to be a backup punter last I heard.

13'- Cooper Bateman- Already passed by a younger QB's.

13'- Parker McLeod- Transferred and then gave up football all together.

13'- Luke Del Rio- Transferred twice now.

Of the 10 QB's signed by Saban, 6 have transferred, 1 was good, 1 was average at best, and two have been bad to really bad. I think the better question may be who hasn't done better?

Georgia has that same problem.
2008
No Qbs

2009
Zach Mettenberger
Aaron Murray (didn't intend to leave him off initially.)

2010
Hutson Mason

2011
Christian Lemay

2012
Faton Bauta

2013
Brice Ramsey

2014
Jacob Park

Again not throwing shade but is qb developement being stunted?

Looks to me like Saban just loads up on a bunch of dudes and then picks the one best fit for his system.

No he didn't. And he also threw a ton of interceptions. Ok, go ahead now and post your 23-17(10) gif. And there is a snake behind you.

One answer is that the 3 schools mentioned in this thread: Bama, UGA, and LSU have historically run pro-style offenses. With more high schools running the spread, it is hard to determine how a QB that never has taken a snap under center will translate to those offenses.

Add Jacob Coker and Cornwell, Coker hasn't impressed anyone and I think Cornwell should start but good job finding McCarron one of the great SEC winning Qb's.

Didn't he have the same problem at LSU? If I recall correctly, poor QB play derailed a couple of their seasons while he was there. Rohan Davey was inherited from their previous coach so Saban doesn't really deserve any credit for him. Matt Mauck was a decent QB for them but he was an older guy who played minor league baseball and those players have always been pretty easy to develop. A.J's really been the only QB who Saban's been able to recruit and develop. I don't know why that is. I knew from day one Star Jackson, Philip Ely, and Alec Morris weren't going to be anymore than serviceable backups. It's perplexing why Saban offered them scholarships and didn't go harder after blue chip QB talent. The good news is that his recruiting methods seem to be changing. I'm pretty high on Cornwell and Barnett. Both have a chance to be very good college QBs.

Georgia's actually had very good QB play over the years. David Greene, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, and DJ Shockley were all solid to outstanding QBs. Also, USC ran a pro-style offense for years and had terrific QB play with Palmer, Leinart, Booty, and Sanchez. I don't think the spread to pro-style offense transition is a valid excuse for poor QB play.

Just think of all the championships he could've won if he was as smart as you.
