Why are the Mississippi schools historically terrible in football?

I mean it is surrounded by all sides by states with colleges that have had a lot of success. What do Alabama and Louisiana have that the land mass is missing?

They have far less in state talent than there neighbors in any direction but split it between the 2 schools.

Back before desegregation, Ole Miss was legit.

I was just looking at some stats. We have beaten Miss St the last 7 times we've played them. The last time they beat us was 1999. We lead the overall series 9-6. That's amazing to me because we have traditionally sucked.

Why has LSU lost to Ole Miss 40 times? Including 22 in tiger stadium?

Eta: 24 times in Tiger Stadium

The coast has decent talent, but LSU is much closer than either one of the MS schools and that increases recruiting difficulty.

Y'all just wait. They've taken the state flag down and are currently in the process of killing their grandparents to atone for shitty football.
