If that were the reason, then alcohol would also be illegal.

They are illegal because they can be easily synthesized in a homemade lab and made untaxable. Uncle Sam wants his money.

A drug that increases aggression for an aggressive sport with aggressive young men for which “a little more” could be the difference between a walk on and a scholarship. Would be a terrible thing to do to the young men.

We saw what they did to MLB

An all time increased fan interest in the game and viewership numbers at an all time high? Sounds horrible.

I get that they are against the rules.

But why illegal

They aren't.

I've been taking steroids every other week with my chemotherapy for the last 8 months.

It is illegal to take without a prescription, but that's true of most medicines. Very few are in fact over the counter.

Chronic and more acute health issues exist from steroid use. Orals very toxic for the liver. Heart, blood pressure, kidney issues. Infertility. Abuse issues. List goes on and on. Under direct physician supervision, labs, proper nutrition, it’s possible to take a bunch of steroids but just giving young athletes gear is recipe for disaster.

This. You can take a cycle here and there and have no health implications but without expertise and medical guidance young kids will frick up and hurt themselves.

Steroid use has been shown to change physiological cardiac remodeling of athletes to pathophysiological cardiac hypertrophy with an increased risk of life-threatening arrhythmias.

theyre illegal, like most illicit substances, because they can be homemade and the govt doesnt like not getting their cut.

Homemade steroid sounds like a brilliant idea! Give them to your friends too. Not a bad way to thin the herd. Just don't make the government pay for you inevitable trip you will make to the ER.

Because they haven't created a tax bracket for them. I say be the best version of athlete you can be. If snorting a line before you go in for a series is a thing then do it.

"Steroids" is kind of a vague catch-all. There are lots of things that are useful in recovering from injury that should be legal. (Although one should still have to test clean before returning to an active roster.)

Steroids like cortisone are useful medicine for allergies, chronic inflammation crohns etc and are prescribed.

Anabolic steroids are a different critter.

I wish they were legal just to see what professional sports morphs into. We’d have 280 lbs players with 3% body fat running 4.5’s.

And having an average lifespan of about 50, mainly due to heart failures and suicides.

With that “logic”, then alcohol should be banned.

I don't think alcohol enhances athletic perfomance, atleast not that I'm aware. Confidence, yes. Performance, no....

By this measure, cocaine and heroin are "not illegal" but we all know this means scheduled drugs without a prescription.

Completely different animals. HGH is mildly anabolic compared to androgens.

That all sounds like a choice for the user to make. If they made alot of things illegal (that aren't now and are bad for the user) then people would go to extremes to get them and lead to crimes and all just the same. As for roid rage, drunks beating on people is a real thing too.
