Ellis Johnson was a good DC before he teamed up with Gus

Will Muschamp was a great DC before he teamed up with Gus

Did these coordinators forget how to coach defense or something?

Gus doesn't care about defense.

Ellis Johnson was slightly above average throughout his career, and Will had the defense playing better. Gus threw all his chips in on this season and it will probably cost him his job. Muschamp was a desperate hire to begin with due to it knowingly being short term.

Looks like Muschamp did good enough to get a HC gig

bVG is probably among the few besides Muschamp i'd say were good to great DCs and he was in the last year of chiziks failure so he couldn't be saved.

Anyone else going to a HC job then who could blame them?

While it's going to get pointed out Auburn didn't run the Nascar tempo this year, it's what Malzahn wants to do.

That type of play puts tremendous pressure on the defense. From a TOP standpoint where they're on the field more, to the lack of depth as more of the athletic talent may be evaluated as an offensive player before considering them for the defensive side of the ball.

You can't put a defense back on the field in short intervals without depth unless you're playing a team that wants to get into a scoring race with you.

Don't see many of those in the SEC do you?

Lack of talent. When Muschamp had to move last year's Mike LBer to DE because we literally had no one else that could pass rush when Lawson went down, that should show you the talent level drop off at Auburn.

Gone are the days of a deep DL stuffing DMAC and Jones. Now we cobble together Juco DT with slow DE who get moved off the LOS.

Bama's TOP really hasn't been much different from AU's the past few years. You guys let the hurry up after a 1st down fool you, and just assume the TOP is off kilter.

Gus probably should dial back the HUNH a bit. When he was our offensive coordinator his offense was still explosive, but it didn't put us in bad spots either.

I think there are some assistants that only do well under strong leadership.

Bama has been running some more up tempo. We have the defensive depth to do it some. Note however they don't do it all the time, and they pick the spots they do it.

That's because Houston Nutt held him in check, the defense on that team was pretty good, Nutt didn't let Gus wear them out during games during the season by HUNH.

Its sad Houston Nutt has a better understanding of the game than Gus Malzahn.

It was statistically the worst defense of his career by a fairly decent margin.

You saw Auburn play at Arky. How much HUNH did you see in that game?
