If you've got ABS and you get locked up and sliding you should get your ABS checked.

Just wait, the sun will come out causing the ice and and snow to sweat. Then it'll freeze again that night being even slicker than before

In Fayettville you also are prepared for winter weather.
1) The meteorologists got their prediction wrong. It wasn't supposed to snow like it did, or stay as cold as it did.
2) It started snowing at 10:30 and came down fast. By 11:30 the roads were iced over and because we weren't warned it would be like this, everybody was out. At work, school, or trying to get their kids from school.
3) It doesn't matter if you know how to drive in the snow when probably 3/4 vehicles at least around here are RWD vehicles.
4) If you've ever been around Birmingham and know how hilly it is, then you can imagine how even if you do have 4WD it's kind of hard to get around all these cars that got stuck on these hills. Several of the roads in my neighborhood are now going through peoples yards because it's the only way to get around the cars in the road.

The hills in Birmingham make the Ozarks looks like the Andes

I read that and was thinking "I don't remember any hills around Birmingham out of all the times I've been there".

The hills in the Ozarks where they prepare for winter weather.
The hills here are steep. It doesn't matter if it's a mountain in Arkansas or a 20 foot hill in my neighborhood, if it's steep and covered in an inch of ice then you aren't making it over in your RWD sedan with normal street tires. All it takes is one person getting stuck at the top or sliding back down to frick everybody else up.

What part of Birmingham have you been to? Flew into the airport and stayed downtown, did ya?

It gets flat once you reach Conway, AR, through MS, AL, GA. It doesn't get hilly again unless you go through TN.
You complain about hills, it snows/ices here you won't make it out of my driveway unless on a 4 wheeler or tractor.

Just talked to a lady on the phone in Athens,Ga. Said she made it into work fine this morning.

Are you taking some weird pride in this?

I think you mean it doesn't get "mountainy" unless you go through Tennessee. Birmingham is in the last foothills of the Appalachians. I'm not trying to compare here to the Ozarks but the metro Birmingham area is most definitely not flat. Especially south of the city, the "Over The Mountain" area. My neighborhood is on top of a 1000 ft "mountain" and there is no way in without climbing steep hills. Next time you're in town I'll show you around Red Mountain, Shades Mountain, or Oak Mountain and then tell me again that Birmingham is flat.
Also when I say "Birmingham" I'm not talking about just the city, I'm talking about the entire greater metro area.

This reminds me of an acquaintance of mine who moved to Arkansas from New York and was "going to show all those southerners how to drive on snow and ice". He didn't make it one mile down the road before totaling out his car. He said, "it was the ice...and not friendly ice either. It wasn't dry and broken up. It was smooth and wet. I learned my lesson."

Because cold weather sucks.
