there is no debate. the state of texas has two flagships schools. UT and a&m. this is a truth. the state of texas does not have one flagship, it has two. has absolutely nothing to do with perception
You guys always get so worked up over this. OP is some noob but you just can't help yourselves.

aggy wants you to believe there are TWO flagship universities in the state. Regardless of how dumb that sounds, let's pretend for a second that it's true. It doesn't matter if technically aggy is also a flagship school, it's about public perception.
If you asked a random person on the street which is the flagship university of Texas, UT or aggy, you would only get one answer. It's a classic little brother move for them to jump up and say "There are actually TWO flagships in Texas, educate yourself."
No one cares about the education system in Texas, and UT is the more prominent university in the state. That's why it's the flagship.

Damn, seems to be a lot of Aggie hate on this board and I haven't even been part of it.

It's still UT but I honestly believe A&M coming to the SEC will one day change this. They're already getting more publicity than ever. Competing in the premier football conference will get them out of Texas' shadow once and for all.

Stonehog, I'm not in the least interested in what you believe.
If there was one Flagship in Texas, I'd have zero problem acknowledging that there was only one; but there are indeed two (i.e., link 1, link 2, link 3).
The fact that a "random person on the street" may not know this fact is of zero consequence to me--not unlike the reality of whether or not Joe Public can name the US Speaker of the House.
I never said anyone cares about the education system in Texas.
I responded to the person who incorrectly asserted that the state has only one flagship institution of higher education.
Not looking for a rumble with you.

It just occurred to me that many of you do not know the meaning of flagship university.
It's not a subjective measure of which school is the most popular/well-known.
In Texas, flagship status is designated.
It's not a debate.

What's that?
Using outside sources (since he would likely doubt my word) to correct the person who was wrong?
I don't get it?
If a thread said, "The University of Arkansas is located on the border of Arkansas and Mississippi," I'd guess that you'd link a map.

Why is the topic so dear to your heart?
I thought Arkansas had some fierce, underrated rivalry with Texas. But apparently that's just your advocacy on their behalf.
