Though UF was quite good, think Michigan would have had the more edge over them due to matchups

Ohio State 12-0
Florida 12-1
Michigan 11-1
Louisville

That was a phenomenal Louisville team btw, with the best offense of any of the contenders that year. They would have been in the NC game that year but for a fluke loss at Rutgers on an offsides call on a missed FG attempt that gave Rutgers another kick they made to win late in the 4th. Petrino had it really humming to perfection in the mid 2000's

Fwiw I thought Louisvilles best team was in 04 or 05 when leflors was a senior and they barely lost to Miami and then beat Boise in a bowl game.

with two road losses in 2006 to Florida and Auburn, LSU was a very hot team towards the end of the season with jamarcus russell having basically the best statistical season for an LSU QB in its history.

I don't think anyone wanted to play LSU at the end of the 2006 season and I remember a lot of the ESPN/sports talking heads saying the same thing. Then they went and dismantled a brady quinn led notre dame team in the sugar bowl.
