They wouldn't put 3 Big Ten teams into the playoff

Ohio St.
Florida
Louisville
Boise State
Maybe they don't take Louisville and go with LSU or Michigan/Wisconsin but the committee has made it clear if you go undefeated in a group of 5 conference with at least one good out of conference win (a smack down of 10 win and top 25 finisher Oregon State) you get in, so I think Boise is a lock under current playoff format.

LSU finished the season #3.

I think we would have made it.

Probably not too many teams with better records

Why would Auburn even be mentioned? They have more losses than 5 teams ahead of them, they didn't win their division, and lost by 22 at home to an unranked UGA.

Auburn could have made a 4 team playoff if not for the loss to Georgia that year, seems they were a top 5 team before the Matt Stafford coming out party.

2006 might be the only season in recent memory where I felt like a team ranked outside the top 4 had the best team in the country. That would be USC. They were so much more impressive in their dismantling of Arkansas compared to LSU and Florida.

The Arkansas team that USC faced was definitely not the team that UF faced in Atlanta.

Arkansas improved throughout the season.

And UF bitch slapped OSU in the NCG, which was the most dominant performance out of any team that season.

More than anything it was the complete implosion of Brandon Cox. 4 completions and 4 INTs I think Stafford only threw for 1 TD.

IIRC, DMac suffered a serious injury (knee?) in August and was far from 100% in that game.
