No downside to that.

Really?Good God,it's not like he's gonna be on camera for 8 hours straight. He'll get 2 or 3 mentions ar best with each game.

Tons of downside for him not to be in Athens especially if Bama advances. He doesn't even have his staff in place and he's needs to start evaluating his roster and needs asap. CMR admitted it was a HUGE mistake staying on at FSU when he took the UGA job.

I kid

UGA got their man. He isn't available until January 10th (not new news). Saban has hired him a separate admin in Tuscaloosa to handle the UGA side of his responsibilities. He has the very best at his disposal to continue readying him for this jump.

WTF kind of short term thinking is that

And he could not come away with a ring at all. And so what if he does? Its still a helluva alot better publicity for Bama then UGA.

Not "short term" thinking at all.Quite the opposite...he's gonna be playing catch up til signing day and all the way into spring practice and he's never been a HC before.A huge difference from a coordinator posistion.

Hell, its a win-win if you're a Bama fan.You get to keep your DC and you already have one (our old one) in the waiting. Meanwhile,KS hasn't even finished naming his staff.

Didn't I recently see Kirby recruiting for Ga. wearing Ga. gear? Kirby has sent his guy over to Athens from Tuscaloosa to get everything in order (that was one of the guy's jobs at Alabama). Hell, it's really no big deal...and I believe the question was who'll be pulling for Bama on NYE. That means the only time in question is between the playoff game and the finals, so...

Actually if you were one is of the envious, jealous, simple-minded minions oozing from the LSU or Auburn fanbases, I'd understand, but you folks are fairly level-headed for the most part.

I would doubt it since it's dead period right now.

What else would a Bama fan say?It sure as hell benefits you if he sticks around.

If KS wasn't involved I probably would be pulling for Bama.

I can't pull for bama any way. An sec  nc win mean nothing to me now but it will mean better recruting for bama. I love to watch saban on the sidelines when he is losing. Priceless. Next year is another year.

"With the active recruiting still in session for a few more days, Smart is using every opportunity available to convince players previously committed and still deciding to play for him at Georgia.

"I'm going from here to go out and start recruiting and use every minute I have of this contact period -- in fact, I'm ready to go right now to see some guys," Smart said. "I've got to go see them. I've only got so long to go see them and then it gets dead again and we go back to work on our bowl games and bowl preps. So we have a detailed list of people we're going to see and attack and see them one last time before it goes quiet again."

And that's dated Dec 10th...you do realize that, don't you?Dead period started on the 14th.

You said you "saw him recently".

You do realize that nobody can recruit during dead periods, right?...so there's no advantage nor disadvantage to him being in Tuscaloosa during this period from a recruiting standpoint...and yes, I did realize the article was from 11 days ago...and that's "recently" in my book. The question was if he'd been hampered by him being in Tuscaloosa, so....he recruited for Georgia right up until dead period, then came to T'town. What the hell the problem with that?

Some of you are just plain DUMB..you can't even google the right answer. Bottom line...the SEC got their $$..same as the B1G...same as the ACC..same as the Big12...the semis mean zilch to the conferences. B1G makes 4M more than any other conference because of OSU and Iowa in NY 6 games.

quote:

College Football Playoff Revenue-Distribution Policies
The following estimates of the CFP revenue distribution are based on preliminary calculations for the 2015-2016 season and are only approximate projections of potential revenue distribution from each component:

(1) Each conference will receive $300,000 for each of its schools when the school’s football team meets the NCAA’s APR for participation in a post-season football game. Each independent institution will also receive the $300,000 when its football team meets that standard.

(2) Each of the 10 conferences will also receive a base amount. For conferences that have contracts for their champions to participate in the Orange, Rose or Sugar Bowl, the base combined with the full academic performance pool will be approximately $51 million for each conference. The five conferences that do not have contracts for their champions to participate in the Orange, Rose or Sugar Bowls will receive approximately $79 million in aggregate (full academic pool plus base), which the conferences will distribute as they choose. Notre Dame will receive a payment of $2.58 million if it meets the APR standard; the other two independents will share $618,241.

(3) A conference will receive $6 million for each team that is selected for the semifinal games. There will be no additional distribution to conferences whose teams qualify for the national championship game. A conference will receive $4 million for each team that plays in a non-playoff bowl under the arrangement.
