Another great Alabama running back people overlook was Shawn Alexander. Underutilized in college really early on he had a great career in the NFL rushing for 9453 yards and catching it for another 1529 with 112 TDs, one year running for 27.

Shaun was also the 2005 NFL MVP. He was also named to the NFL's 2000 All-Decade team and ranks #8 all time in NFL History for Rushing Touchdowns (100).

I got him right behind Henry all time.

Herschel spent 3 to 4 years in the USFL. That's a long time for a RB. This conversation is about college. Herschel's college game is unmatched. When he was at Georgia, there was no trickery; they knew who was getting the ball 98% of the time.

Then why did you bring up the USFL? Walker was a big back with great straight-line speed. He was also relentless. But he couldn't run laterally with suddenness and speed. It hurt his pro career.

You are a little strong on that one. Lol
He did fine getting the edge and turning the corner.

If he wasn't going through you he wasn't going.

He won the edge a ton.

He also had a side step and acceleration that won a ton of reps (he was so big, defenders came in hard. A simple jump to the side made them whiff. Seriously, watch a herschel nfl highlight reel.)

"Couldn't"
Who the frick are you?

You must've not watched then. He would run to the outside and beat them to the corner constantly.

Big 4 if you're talking collegiate career

McFadden
All purpose yards (career) 5,881 yards
YPC (career) 5.8
Passing: 205 yards, 7 TDs, 1 INT
Total TDs 51

Bo
All purpose yards (career) 4,892 yards
YPC (career) 6.6
Passing: 0 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT
Total TDs 45

Herschel
All purpose yards (career) 5,749
YPC (career) 5.3
Passing: --
Total TDs 52

Chubb
All purpose yards (career) 5,130
YPC (career) 6.3
Passing: --
Total TDs 48

#1 and #2 of these 4 in each category
All purpose yards (career): #1 Mcfadden, #2 Herschel
YPC (career): #1 Bo, #2 Chubb
Total TDs: #1 Herschel, #2 Mcfadden

If you're ranking them purely as a runnner I'd go:

Herschel
Bo
Mcfadden
Chubb

Ranking them as overall best college football player:

Mcfadden
Herschel
Bo
Chubb

Walker is getting compared now to the best NFL running backs there have been. He was left wanting. He didn't have a HOF NFL career because he didn't have the game. It's that simple and perhaps painful for dawgs fans to appreciate, but it is what it is.

Which is more than fine with me. It should all be brought up if someone wants to pull out the all-time great measuring tape.

It's Herschel and/or Bo. If you say only one or the other, I can't say you'd be wrong.

He was hard to defend but not hard enough as in a three year period, Arkansas went 18-16. One West title, no SEC title, no bowl victories and no Heisman. All that hard work and nothing to show for it.

Right, but I don't think his numbers suffered because of all that which is what I'm saying. LSU fans used to say the same thing about Fournette, that if we had a competent passing game that his numbers would have been more ridiculous. See, I disagree. Him being in a Les Miles offense allowed him to be the focal point of the offense and show out more than if we had been more balanced.

McFadden had 325 carries in 13 games in his last season in 2007. 25 carries per game is A LOT for a running back. He averaged 5.6 ypc which is also very good and was 2nd in the SEC that year behind only his teammate Felix Jones.

It's just really hard to say that his numbers would have been better than 1800+ yards with a better quarterback. He may have had better accolades had he been on a better team, but I just can't agree that his career rushing yards were cheated by playing in the offenses he did.

If you're going on these numbers, I'm not sure how you can't include Kevin Faulk

all purpose yards career: 6,833 (SEC record)
YPC career: 5.3
Passing: 27 yards, 1 TD
Total TDs: 53

Look at Herschel’s pro stats and say that.

You keep leaving out his USFL years. Which were pretty impressive
