Terrence Cody was reportedly 410 pounds in community college but dropped to about 385 in the SEC. He was possibly the heaviest player in SEC history.

quote:

Despite his dominance, he had trouble drawing scholarship offers, as his weight of 410 pounds (190 kg) scared off many teams. “A lot of people are just wary of guys that big,” Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Steve Campbell said. “You know when people say that if things seem too good to be true that they usually are. A big guy like that who's that athletic, you just don't believe what you're seeing.”[7] Particularly noted for his lower body strength, Cody had a squat max of 660 pounds (300 kg) in junior college.[5]

However, after Cody had his weight down to 385 lb (175 kg), a number of schools offered him scholarships, including Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Florida State.[12] He was heavily recruited particularly by Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, who was in need of a true nose tackle for his 3–4 defense.[1] Cody recalls Saban telling him, "We need a body like yours in the middle, to stop the run, to change the rhythm of the game."[13]

There is reportedly a new champion:
Desmond Watson

DT, FLORIDA GATORS

Florida freshman DL Desmond Watson reported to spring camp weighing 432 pounds.

Watson (6'5/432) is an absolute mountain of a human being who was listed at 385 pounds before showing up 47 pounds over that already hefty mark.
The Seffner, FL native is rated as a three-star prospect and 23rd best defensive tackle from the 2021 recruiting cycle. He has prototype size for a run-stuffing nose tackle capable of taking on double-teams and holding the point of attack. It will be interesting to see how the neophyte interior lineman develops once he is immersed in a SEC level training program, as Watson is already drawing comparison's to longtime NFL DT Terrence Cody.

There’s no room for those players any more in sports past high school and they’re not effective in high school as much either with these new offenses.

In 3 years, Desmond Watson will be 330-340 and 1st team All-SEC. Dude is still a freak athlete with all that horrible weight.

He’s going to have to lose a small human to get there

This is a bit of a stretch. He played 3 or 4 years in Baltimore if I’m remember correctly. He did win a BCSNC and a Super Bowl though. It has to be hard to play 16+ games in the NFL at that weight.

As mentioned, the gigantic 3-4 nose tackles aren’t as prevalent as as they were 10-15 years ago either.

They got Ethan White down from 380 to 335 in one offseason. I thought that dude's knees would shatter before he ever took a snap, and he was pushing for a starting spot by the end of his freshman year. So it's extremely possible he can do it.

Speaking bluntly, even beyond his potential as a star football player, I just want an intervention for his life. All it would take at his current weight is a bad car wreck or even a slip and fall around stairs and he could be bedridden and on track to die in 4-5 years.

Yeah - I definitely wasn’t implying that he couldn’t do it, just that it’s a lot of weight regardless of the time frame. Somebody with enough athletic ability to play D1 football shouldn’t have an issue losing that kind of bad weight with the nutrition and fitness staff available at an SEC school though. If he has weight issues in a year or two, it’s likely his own fault.

I remember when Cody first got to Tuscaloosa. I was talking to a friend who had a son playing then, and he said the kid had told him the night before that some guy had showed up at practice that NOBODY could block...said he was north of 400 lb. and came from a junior college.

How heavy was Terrell Brown when he was at Ole Miss? He weighed over 400 with the Rams.

Terrell was going to be my guess. He is famous for crushing a chair on the sidelines.

If you clear 400 while living a fairly active life you're going to have weight issues forever. Says something about both discipline and genetics, and it's going to cost millions no matter how freak an athlete you are.
