UF finished last season ranked in the top 10 in total defense in the NCAA. I expect UF to have the third best defense in the SEC this season after Bama and LSU.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened considering the recruiting on that side of the ball.

I only watched UGA play against BSU and LSU in the conference championship game. I don't think they put their best foot forward in those games.

Georgia's defense will be undervalued because people will attribute good stats to scheduling. Georgia has the most talented defense in the nation this year. All 11 starters and some backups will be pros in some capacity

Now that's debatable for sure.

No kidding. Anyone who let Jordan Jefferson make them look foolish can't possibly make such an outrageous claim. Jordan fricking Jefferson.

Sounds like a star gazer when he says "most talent". Maybe according to rivals or padded SECe stats.

Jordan Jefferson: 5/13 30 yds 1 td
6 rushes -5 yds

He killed it

Anybody who watched that game beginning to end knows that it was tyrann mathieu's show.

The assertion that they are the most talented based on NFL futures is a bit dubious since draft projections are so reliable.

My point isn't whether the SEC is the best conference. That is indisputable. Oregon faced USCw, Stanford and Wisconsin. All of those teams had very respectable defenses. My point is whether a team like UGA holds Oregon to less than USCw team. Some poster here act like no one is playing defense out of the conference. I am saying you remove LSU/BAMA and the rest look like another BCS conference top to bottom.

Let me put it this way. USC, Stanford, Wisconsin, none of them would've had a Top 6 defense in the SEC last year.

5/13 30 yards is sure making a defense look foolish

I was very high on the UGA defense and still am. But we ran for over 200 yards against y'all nearly averaging 6 yards a carry. You have to do better than that against one of the big boys from the West if you want to be anointed the top defense in the league.

Two touchdowns were not the defense's fault and the offense wasn't helping much either.

If Georgia's up 21-0 or 21-7 at half we have a very different game.

The offense and special teams are the reasons for most of Georgia's losses last year

Alabama, LSU, UGA, USCe, UF, Vandy

Not sure how they all ranked in comparison to the teams you played, but using the eye test all six of the teams I just listed had better defenses than USCw, Stanford, and Wisconsin.

Must be nice not playing Oregon or West Virginia level offenses.

That, plus keeping the Tigers out of the endzone in 2 games.

I wasn't attributing points to your defense but with that type of rushing yardage, it doesn't exactly tell me you're a great defense. 200 yards in the SEC when we're a completely one-dimensional team is not a good statline for purposes of UGA in this discussion. I love grantham, I think the defense will be legit again this year, Jones is the best linebacker in the league at getting to the quarterback etc. But LSU has the best front four in the conference and UGA doesn't.

UGA's stats of having a great defense last year are a product of having a piss easy schedule with bad offenses.

BUMP!

It's pretty funny going through and seeing all the Auburn/Arkansas pre-season hype after just Week 3
