I like him because he's done a great job with the lesser know sports and it seems that, as of now, he's made a really good football hire and is pumping money into things not named mens basketball.

So you don't hold the Joker Phillips hire against him? I post on the UK Rivals site (football and baseball only - hate the Raftards) and there was a lot of hand-wringing when Joker was named the "coach-in-waiting." It continued over the next three years and got more shrill as he steadily drove the program into the ground, undoing everything Rich Brooks had built up. How could so many fans see it coming but Barnhart couldn't? Our collective answer - his ego blinded him.

I also posted over there and there wasn't near the hand-wringing that you're talking about. If anything most were on board with hiring an up and coming coordinator and a Kentucky guy. Rich Brooks himself pushed the hire and Barnhart really didn't have any reason to not trust his judgement in the matter.

National AD of the year Jeff Long?

Long winning national AD of the year simply for firing someone in a high profile way is about as legit as Obama winning a Nobel Peace Prize for being a black president.

I don't post there. Never have, never will. Joker is a UK guy. He bleeds blue and was a good coordinator. At the time the hire made sense. No one knew that he would be so bad.

Well, okay. I was against the hire and so I suppose I saw mostly those who were also against hiring someone so green to head coaching. You were likely not opposed so maybe you saw the reverse. Can we meet in the middle?

My complaint against Barnhart stands. He may have brought our olympic sports up several notches but my main interest is football. I have yearned for a better program at UK for most of my life and it seemed we had finally turned the corner with Brooks. Then, wham! We're back to our familiar losing ways.

Football is my favorite sport too and I would trade all of our basketball championships... Or at least most of them...for football championships.

Stoops looks to be a good hire with a talented young staff. They're bringing in more talent than we've ever seen. Gives it time. It could end up being one of the best hires in UK history.

That's extremely racist and you should feel bad about yourself.

I'm not flaming when I say this, but Scott Stricklin at State isn't anything to write home about.

Oh, law, I hope so. You have to be at least slightly masochistic to be a UK football fan.

And yet he's hired Stoops, who has recruited better than any coach at UK ever. And managed to secure funding for some huge upgrades to the football program. Does that not deserve some redemption?

My only knock is that I would like a bigger push for baseball. A new stadium can't come fast enough.

Slightly? My boyfriend is a Bama alum. Our apartment is filled with Bama national championship memorabilia. Football season as a football first Kentucky fan is hell. I still watch every single game and attend the ones that are close by.

unfortunately if stoops succeeds he'll probably end up moving on to another job.

There's always a chance that he sticks around. We have money and are showing a willingness to spend it. Plus he's from Youngstown. There aren't many major conference schools closer to Youngstown than us.

My frustration with Barnhart centers on his seeming need to take two steps backward before he can take two steps forward with our football program. The net result is kind of like running on a treadmill.

I just don't think he consulted with anyone about his worst two hires. He did on Calipari but not on Gillispie. He did on Stoops but not on Phillips.

I was pleasantly surprised with his hiring of Gary Henderson. He and his staff may get UK to our first CWS. I expected the worst when Cohen went back to MSU.

If Stoops proves to be even as good as Rich Brooks was, UK will fling money at him like a caged gorilla flings shite at tourists. (Maybe that's not such a good analogy.)

My point is that UK's administrators are surely aware by now that it's football that drives the money train for SEC schools, and most other major conferences, too. We'd be crazy to let him go.

Well State isn't exactly anything to write home about either.
