Damn. Saban is good if he can win SECCOTY at Texas.

Trying to take my black and gold glasses off so here goes:

I know most of you here in the SEC expected Mzzou to come in a be a doormat and not compete. Last year with all the injuries it made for some good conformation bias among SEC fans that Mizzou was shite.

The fact of the matter is Pinkel and Mizzou have been one of the top 15-20 programs in terms of win since he has been at mizzou with multiple 10 win seasons and a stint at number one and shot at the BCS title game in the last game of the regular season in 2007.

So this success, while surprising to some, isnt as accomplished as what Gus is doing in his first year at Auburn. If Auburn stumbles a bit Poinkel could move into the conversation but if they keep trucking along you have to give the award to Gus.

Now, Im gonna put my black and gold glasses back on...

Gary Pinkel and Gus Malzahan have done a great job with largely unexpected success

But if Saban can pull out a Threepeat with National Championships in four out of five years... I think it should go to him...

If Missouri makes it to the SECCG and Auburn doesn't, how do you not give it to Pinkel? If they both make it to the SECCG, the winner of the game should get it.

Gary Pinkel- Missouri came literally out of nowhere. They have played the best football out of all the teams in the East. If Pinkel wins the East, I think he should definitely receive the honor.

coach of the year for turning around what looked like a for sure first fire of mizzou after joining the SEC.

quote:

Nick Saban- team is undefeated and has an excellent shot for a third national title in a row and his fourth in his tenure at Bama

best coach in sec

quote:

Gus Malzahan- Came out of nowhere too. Auburn had a shitty team last year, but they had potential. He has them in a complete 180 from last year though. 3-9 to any sort of 10+ win season is nothing short of amazing.

did good but wasn't ever really considered to be a viable option to win his division.

The one that wins the Iron Bowl?

Is this a trick question or something?

I can agree with this scenario. They are both deserving but this isnt as big an accomplishment for Pinkel as it will be for Gus should they both make the SECCG.

It's between Pinkel and Malzahan. Right now, I'd give the slight edge to Pinkel. He has his team in position to win the SEC East where many thought Mizzou would simply be a doormat for years.

However, Malzahan could surpass him in the next two weeks. If AU beats (UGA very possible) and Bama (would be a surprise) then he clearly deserves the award after turning the worst team in the SEC last year into 11-1 SEC West champs (the tougher of the two divisions).

Sumlin was co-SEC COY with Muschomp last year. Would be interesting if Sumlin and Pinkel were named SEC COY the 1st 2 years their teams were in the league.

Pinkel if Missouri wins the SEC Championship.

Otherwise, winning coach of the Iron Bowl.

The "Coach of the Year" award is pretty silly.

They just automatically give it to whoever the coach is of the team that had the biggest turnaround.

Serious question for tRant:

If Freeze beats Mizzou on the 23rd and then handles MSU , would you consider him a legit candidate?

That'd be a 9-3 regular season and wins over two (at the time of the wins) top 10 teams.

I realize it's not 3-9 to 10-2 like Gus, but just two years ago we went 2-10 and Freeze is working with way less talent and depth than Gus.

I just wonder what other fanbases' views would be in that situation.

EDIT - That would be our best season since Eli's senior year.
