A&M, while not necessarily in line with what I'd consider the geographic South, at least has fit into the culture pretty well.
A&M is a Southern school. The only one in Texas

I also don't understand why everyone trips over themselves to prove that Texas is "southern" when others don't view it that way. My response to that would be, good. Who the frick wants to get lumped in with the poverty stricken, uneducated and backwards thinking of the dirty south?
Texas isn't southern, it's Texas goddamnit!

The schools that would fit best in the SEC are the southern ACC schools.
Clemson and FSU are by far the best fits. Their football programs are strong, they have large fanbases, they are culturally southern, and they have decent to good academics. They are cut from the same cloth as the SEC schools.
After them, you could make arguments for other southern ACC schools such as UNC, NC State, Ga Tech (obviously used to be SEC), UVA, and Va Tech. They don't fit in quite as well for a variety of reasons, but are still solid and would not be any more outliers than some existing schools.
After that it gets really dicey. WVU is more appalachian, and I question if all the people recommending them. Have y'all actually been to the campus or interacted w/ their fanbase? They are really bad. Poor academics and rude people. Like half of their fanbase acts like the worst 10% of a normal fanbase.
Penn State: WTF? Does not deserve a response
ECU: Maybe in a few decades if their program comes along. I'm not sure about the culture, I've never interacted w/ their people.

The fans are nuts and as obsessed as Sec people are at Penn State.

Not obsessed with football, really. Obsessed with the school? Absolutely. It's akin to Texas A&M's cult thing. And the fans really aren't bad. I've never seen anything like that happen. The frat houses aren't even on campus for the most part, btw.

I don't get the FSU and WVU responses. They'd fit ok, I guess, but neither is a cultural fit for the SEC as some indicate.

I'd go with either Louisville or Oklahoma.

I've spent a lot of time in Oklahoma...There was very little difference there (culturally) from home. Very SEC-esque.

Why does that comment crack me up?

No idea
But it's true. There are maybe 6 total on campus. Most of them near Beaver Avenue

SEC campuses have a certain... charm to them. Whether it's brick/agricultural, or greek-revival, there seems to be at least one other SEC school that looks very similar to yours (ex. Auburn-Miss State, Ole Miss-Alabama).... There are exceptions, but the campuses are as important as so-called "football culture" to fitting in the SEC.
