Memphis, Georgia Southern
UCF USF
East Carolina
East Carolina is only way you will realistically get into NC, and they could probably be the best program in NC if they were in a power 5 conference.

Penn State- are you fricking joking?
Mizzou is midwestern, not Southern
Oklahoma is midwestern/southwestern/semi-Texan, not Southern

I don't think you realize how fully unintelligent/redneck/backwards/southern UTex views the SEC.
They want zero part of it.
While you seemingly long for their presence, they sneer at the thought.
As for them being the better "pick" than A&M, it wasn't a pick.
TAMU was willing to come.
The horns were never part of the discussion.

Florida State. They should've joined when they acted like they were going to. It's too bad that Bowden got cold feet and ultimately decided FSU would fare better in an easier conference.

While they'd fit the culture, no way do they fit the level of either academics or athletics.

UCF USF
Anywhere in FL south of Ocala/Daytona Beach is no longer the South. Therefore, neither of these teams qualify.

East Carolina
See Ga Southern and Memphis. Though I'd consider them more simply for representing the missing NC piece the SEC has been lacking.

A&M, while not necessarily in line with what I'd consider the geographic South, at least has fit into the culture pretty well.

I think Georgia Southern is serious about athletics. Playing in a power 5 conference is what they need to get over a hump. They are already building a bigger football stadium. They recently added engineering programs and the school has at least as many students as Clemson, 18000 or so. I think it would be cool to have a major football program that close to Savannah.
UGA would shoot that down in a second though. lol
Memphis was bit of a joke but geographically they should be considered no. 1 option for new SEC school.
UCF isn't far from Gainesville. No more than 1 hour. Florida and the Auburn schools would oppose this though becaus it would be another school to compete against in Florida for recuirts.
I don't see SEC taking ECU but it is a big school, at least as big as Clemson, and their stadium is probably as big as NC State and UNC's. Plus you would make the rural people in that area so happy.

While I agree, having another GA team in a power conference (especially near Savannah) would be good for the state, Southern is nowhere near ready to take that on. They just bumped up to D1 and while, yeah, they built an upper deck for their stadium, they're still only at 25k. I think they need to have at least 45k seats built and filled consistently before they're even considered.

Maybe. But as of right now, probably not. We'll see how much of a threat they grow into as a D1 team.

They certainly fit the profile. Not sure how TN would feel about having three teams in the conference. Not sure how OM would feel about having another SEC program in the dead middle of their recruiting grounds, either.

Orlando is not an SEC city and UCF is not an SEC school. Large population, but they don't fit the profile at all. Ditto for USF.

ECU makes the best case, but for branding purposes in that state it's got to be one of the ACC schools or bust.
