Mullen. He has done pretty well considering the absolute trash heap of talent he has.

I know that people will look at Mullen's record vs top 25 and I know its awful.
I guess you got to go with Gus

Based off of accomplishments, Malzahn. Based on the type of resources that they have available, Mullen. If Mullen wasn't in Starkville and had better resources, he could have a heck of a program. I'm not knocking State (my brother went there), but they haven't even been to Atlanta since Mullen has been there.

I'll say Saban is the second best I guess. He doesn't have the charisma or recruiting ability of Orgeron but he wins games

If Yellowteeth can improve his recruiting, I'll go with him.

Mullen needs more after what dak has shown. He's been great for Mississippi State though. (Don't take that as an insult)
McElwain better have a big year and start recruiting. I don't care if Florida has won the east with him, he lost to Arkansas.
We were getting stomped by Vanderbilt, lost to an FCS team and setting bad records for bad performances -- losing to Vanderbilt at home for the first time since 1945 (more than a decade and a half before my mom was born).
Not bowling since '79 (almost a decade before I was born), along with the first losing conference record since '79.
Two losing seasons in the SEC since the '50s.
The first loss to an FCS in the history of the program.
Basically, McElwain took a team that regularly struggled against FCS teams, had a losing season and was no where close to being in the hunt for the East and won the East twice.
While he lost to Arkansas, he beat LSU on the road -- the first time the Gators had done so since 2009.
The first HC to win his Division twice in a row. (SEC)
Set the school record for least yards allowed (32).
Had back to back ten win seasons (if you count Presbyterian) in spite of severely poor offensive recruiting from Muschamp and put the Gators on the map again for the most part.
Mullin is a damn good coach, no doubt, but McElwain should be in the conversation.

Let's rephrase the question. If you had to hire a current SEC coach not named Saban, who would you hire?

Lol our talent level is virtually dead even with that of Arkansas over the last several years, according to the services. We recruit better on defense, Arkansas better on offense.

You need to give him a few years. I live in Gator country. Every single Gator fan I know bitches about his sorry recruiting. They follow UF a lot closer than I do.

It's my order. Don't get upset, Malzahn would not be on my list. Like Rich Rod wasn't.

Saban
Malzahn
McElwain
Mullen
Order isn't going to change no matter how many threads are devoted to the subject.

If we take a step in the right direction offensively (like we should this year), our recruiting will become much easier. It isn't easy to compete in recruiting with teams like FSU and Miami when you lose to freaking Georgia Southern...

The last thing Alabama needs is a head coach in training, trying to navigate his way around the SEC landscape. Bama won't have enough patience to let a coach learn as he goes, they won't sit back very long and watch 7-8 win seasons with bowl losses stack up while a man making $4-5mm/yr finds his way.
With the current crop of SEC coaches, I'm not too enthused with any of them at Bama, but I'd choose McElwain/Mullen.
