Cam was the most unstoppable IMO. Manziel has the most highlights but I'll always have a certain lack of respect for Manziel because of how LSU completely neutralized him both games.

Cam > Tebow > Jameis > Manziel

I'm not calling Cam a once in a generation player for one fricking good year. At least Manziel had two years of high level football under him as well as better stats.

What does Manziel have to show for it? Cam won a BCSCG at Auburn and is doing well in the NFL

None. A once in a generation talent is a Bo Jackson,Lebron James,Or a Michel Jordan. People throw this term around way to damn often. Over kill is prevalent with the dumb asses of today.

Newton had more TDs, fewer turnovers. Manziel had more passing yards but also 150 more passing attempts to do it. Oh, and Newton was undefeated and won a title.

Tebow had more TDs than either one of them, fewer turnovers than both and more passing yards then Newton.

FWIW, I wouldn't describe any of them as once in a generation, just throwing Tebow's numbers in for good measure.

guys like

Tyrann Mathieu are once in a generation, the fact that you see QBs putting up similar stats means they are not once in a generation

Mcfadden is another one

the things they did were incredible. not taking away from Newton, Tebow, Manziel.

But Manziel would be one i would say is closest to OIG.

Agree with dubosed. This and the word great when describing players and teams are way overused in this era of sports. There are not many truly "great" players or teams right now.

Bo may be the answer. Best athlete I've ever seen.

I think that may be the only real answer at this point. Many of the names here are more a generation of more games in a season and hype of TV. Bo on the other hand had more athletic gifts, in several sports, than people give him credit for. Sometimes it is easy for people to forget how much of this current "once a generation" talk is just a marketing term that really does not compare talent longitudinally.

The generation before that might have to be Jim Brown. He was the last guy to be named 1st team all-american in two sports at the same time (football and lacrosse).

Tebow had 55 in 2007

True, but there was better talent at Florida, and i think he was a complete product of that system.

Cam could play in almost any system.

Cam led a "meh" Auburn team to an undefeated season. Manziel couldn't even lead his team to a conference title.

That being said, I think McFadden beats them both.

JFF has records but no hardware
Tebow has hardware but no pro career
Manning has the pro career, but no hardware in college.

Probably helps to set criteria for best in a generations as the more selective the title, the greater the barriers to entry.

I hate when people say this shite. That Auburn team was a whole hell of a lot better than people give them credit for. That defense might have given up some yards, but they would hit you in the fricking mouth. When you can create pressure with four, you can hang with any body in college football. They had skill position players for days and that O-line was great. People bash that Barn team and say Cam was the reason for 14-0 season. You don't win 14 games because of one player. Especially in the game of football.

^ Look at Auburns record the year before and after Cam. He really did drag Auburn on his back the whole season running the read option and gaining 5 yards just falling forward. The amount of attention defenses had to give Cam led to the other skill players gashing big holes.

If i am being honest, i don't think there are any people like Tyrann Matthieu.

His skill set is is pretty unique.
