All this talk about Ed Orgeron being the second coming of Gene Chizik has got me thinking about the all-time worst head coaches in SEC history. Most people would probably put Saban, Bryant, Spurrier, and Neyland on the Mt. Rushmore of greatest SEC coaches; so who would be your picks for the all-time worst?

Curley Hallman is up there

Jennings Bryan "Ears" Whitworth

I feel like any list leaving off Watson Brown is automatically invalidated. No coach has lost more games than he has and he coached at Vanderbilt in the late-80s and early-90s.

Ears Whitworth, Curley Hallman, Mike Price, Ed Orgeron

I am not an Ed Orgeron fan, but the man has won a national title plus a Fiesta Bowl. Curley Hallman belongs on the list. Just an awful head coach

I don't think he's the worst coach of all time by any means...but how many coaches have failed as a HC at 2 SEC schools like Muschamp?

What's the metric here? Seems like there will scads of coaches who never got on the radar simply because there was not much expected of them. Seems like there should be some "weighting factor" that accounts for this, i.e., what SHOULD they have accomplished ("underachievement")?
By that metric, Sumlin would have to get some consideration. Considering the loaded deck he started with, the resources that precipitated from it, the epic mismanagement of 4 different Heisman and/or NFL QB's, and the general "amateur hour" culture, Sumlin made a pretty big splash.

Ears is the easy Alabama pick for anyone who knows Alabama history.
DuBose seems like an easy pick, yet he actually won an SEC Championship. Meanwhile Bill Curry lost to Auburn over and over and IMO wasted quite a bit of talent.
But looking around the SEC my vote goes to John L Smith.
