When he left for FSU, bama fans said he just set up cones for Kirby.
After he won at fsu it was because of stoops recruits.
When he did well at uga the bama fans couldn't deny it anymore.

The impression I got was he made enemies long before he left for FSU or UGA. If it had just been a rivalry thing, I wouldn't have bothered asking. Apparently his family is or was active enough in the Birmingham area that he evokes some strong feelings on a personal level.
