Does anyone know who, when and where the “horn’s down” sign originated?

My best guess would be a fan of Arkansas, Oklahoma or Texas A&M back in the 1960s.

Harry Rex Vonner did it. I was there. It was glorious.

Apparently, UCF gave the “horns down” in the handshake line after beating them this week and the Horns’ coach was not pleased.

Legend has it that an aggie milkman was trying to give his boyfriend the shocker and couldn't figure out the math....and a tradition was born.

I’d say find out when the horns up was started and look for their first loss after that.

Apparently it was first started in 1955 by a cheerleader…..then this on horns down:

It's unclear when it was first used, but The Daily Texan featured a Baylor student doing it in 1963, bringing media attention to the new phenomenon.

Don’t know that, but I do know the name BEVO was born out of necessity to cover up a 13 - 0 branding iron on the longhorn side, courtesy of the Aggies

I don't know who started it, but Matt Jones perfected it.

That's actually not true.

And this place, and Rodney Terry, are obsessed with Horns down. Texas fans don't give a shite.

"Hook 'em Horns was invented on Nov. 11th, 1955.

The next day Texas played TCU in Austin and Horn students started doing the "Hook 'em.

So my guess is that it was a visiting TCU fan on that Nov. 12th day. (TCU won).

The next week...Texas played A&M. I'm sure some enterprising Aggie figured out how to turn the Hook 'em Horns" downward.

just one of many fairy tales you and your fellow aggy believe if told enough times it somehow becomes true.
