I thought that was the REC and some Bama grad in the SEC offices that did that?

There's no such thing as a big 6. It's just someone's opinion and a list. You could say there are the top 6 in categories. But when you say Big 6 what do you mean?
Budget? Stadium size? Endowment? Football success? Athletic department success? Size of the student body?
It changes around for each of those.
Stupid thread.

Can we get a thread about having to play florida every year and permanent rivals.

As long as Florida is in it, IDGAF about the rest.

I just see people always talking about the Big 6 and didn't know every team in it.

Well when certain schools that aren't in it claim to be its sometimes hard to know who is in it. Also, I didn't know if it changed every year or was constant.

That hurts. Can't hurt as bad as being little brother in your own state though.

I talked to a Sewanee grad at a Christmas party, he said it's in the SEC charter that if Sewanee ever wants back in, the SEC has to let them.
That would be pretty bad arse if they decided they wanted some of that money... this gives me a new topic idea.... who would/should the SEC kick out to keep the conference balanced?

That's a record worth displaying.

Sigh. The "big 6" is a phrase that's been around for 20 years. It isn't some ever changing mystery like you're making it out to be, it's the top 3 teams in each division. Which are also the top 6 teams historically in the SEC.
UGA,UF,UT, AU,UA,LSu
That's it.

Honestly the BIG 6 changes on a yearly basis. So going into 2013 i would say this is the BIG 6:
Alabama
LSU
Texas A&M
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
W/L record of the last 5 years:
Alabama: 61-7
Florida: 52-15
LSU: 51-15
Georgia: 46-21
SCar: 45-21
Arkansas: 38-25
Auburn: 38-26
Texas A&M: 37-27
I kinda like this. Use a 5 season window for the current big 6.

Would be too original.

I thought they were referred to as the big 6 because they are the only 6 schools to win the SEC since expansion in 1992, rather than because they were the original 6 members of the conference. I'm not sure if it's primarily a message board term or what though because I've not heard it referenced anywhere else.

Maybe it's the 6 teams that won their bowl games.
