Cox also had the great fortune of playing Bama in the 50 something player schollie limit probation years circa 2000-2007.
I doubt VERY SERIOUSLY with his lack of mobility and suspect arm he would have had the same success today.

It's a football thing that you don't understand.
There's more to the game than a bunch of numbers on a stat sheet. Nobody outside of Athens will ever compare Aaron Murray to JaMarcus Russell.

Sorry to keep picking on OM, but this was the most incredible play I remember JR pulling off at LSU. Spins out of 2 sacks while rolling to his left and flicks it 45 yards down the field without even setting his feet.

Not so sure. Watch those games in 80 and 81 and Belue was just so effecient. With his legs and he could complete passes and pick up first downs. Yea, it helped to have Hershel for everybody to key on but Buck was a football player that just moved the sticks. Great athlete. If I recall he was a Toronto Blue Jay draft pick for baseball.
Now Johnny Lastinger, Quincy Carter. They were ovverrated but make no mistake, UGA doesnt win the 80 title without Benjamin Franklin Belue directing that offense.

Jamarcus was considered such an elite talent because of his size and his massive arm. But if you look at their production in college, anyone saying JR is the better QB in a runaway is simply fooling themselves.
Career stats (and for the record, AM's were in 4 years compared to JR's 3, so take that into the equation):
JR: 493/797 (62%), 6625 yards, 52/21, 148 rating.
AM: 921/1478 (62%), 13166 yards, 121/41, 159 rating.
Divide their career totals (by either 3 or 4) to get their career average per season:
JR: 2,208 yards, 17 TD/7 Int
AM: 3,291 yards, 30 TD/10 Int
Ok, well Jamarcus started slow but was a beast in 06. Let's compare both QB's best single season at the helm:
JR: 232/342 (68%) 3,129 yards, 28/8, 167 rating
AM: 249/386 (65%) 3,893 yards, 36/10, 175 rating
All this doesn't even take rushing into account, where JR had 79 career yards compared to Murray's 396.

The issue is who was better, not more talented.
But no, I think JR was without question more talented. Which has nothing to do with the current converstaion.

Andy Kelly - Tennessee
Threw for 6,400 yards at Tennessee and was within a hair of beating #1 Notre Dame as a Junior...and staged a huge comeback to beat them the following year in South Bend when they were ranked 5th.

Stafford was an excellent college QB, and showed a lot of promise early on in his NFL career, certainly much more than Russell.
And you mention 3 years - Aaron Murray was given the starting role in a QB-friendly offense as a redshirt Freshman and never faced any real competition.
Russell was a backup his redshirt freshman year, started over Flynn and Perriloux in his sophomore, and lit up defenses his junior year. He had unreal talent and an ability to put the ball exactly where it needed to be 70 yards downfield.
Aaron Murray could not do what Russell did, but Russell would have looked even better if he played at Georgia.

I'm not arguing with you. Russell was more talented. I'm just pointing out his stats were worthless in this context.
